Now that Nintendo WiFi Connection is really starting up the 15th(launch of Mario Kart, which I've already pre-ordered and put all the money down :)), I'll be takin names....and friend codes. So whenever you get Mario Kart or Animal Crossing, you can post your friend code up here.

Hah, I was wondering when this thread would show up, I was checking around to see if someone had already made one before doing it myself.

Luckily, I have a hotspot at the McDonald's a short walk away, but I think I'm still going to order the USB Dongle for my computer instead... It's kind of akward playing your DS at McDonald's, and you have to sit near the register if you want to make a connection... I haven't started a WFC Match with my copy of MK:DS yet, I'm first going to try and complete all the Grand Prix modes and Missions and stuff so I can unlock better cars and characters. The game seems easier to get good Ranks than in Super Circuit. :lol:

lucky me, i already have a wireless router in my house. Tails said i could use that for wifi >_>

i thought i saw a picture of an adapter that you have to plug into the ds...it looks exactly like the one i have in my computer...so you know me...i tried plugging the one from my computer into my DS >_>;

that adapter looked pretty inconvenent for a portable system though...cause it sticks staight out for a stick...i wasnt sure if it was the real one O_o

You can connect your DS to the internet via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection in a few ways. If you're at home with a broadband connection, you can either use a compatible wireless router to play online or purchase a USB cord off nintendo.com, and connect directly from your USB jack. If you're not at home, you can connect wirelessly at any participating hotspots, McDonalds being one of them. However, if you go to a hotspot that is not directly participating with Nintendo, such as a T-mobile hotspot (just to name a random example), it's not as easy. You'll likely need to sign up at the hotspot first to gain access, and depending on the place, you may need a laptop computer (or some sort of compatible device that can act as a router), which you can then connect the DS to via the USB cord.

I, unfortunetly, do not own a copy of Mario Kart DS... but my twin brother does, and I've played it. I actually gave my brother my old DS, since his system has missing pixels, a dirty screen, and other problems. We sold his old system, got credit for it, and I plan on using that credit to get a new DS. I'm planning on getting the red one, which will be bundled with Mario Kart DS.

Additionally, I finally got a broadband connection... or atleast I will be, soon. At first, Verizon told us it wouldn't be ready until December 15th, but it's actually ready as of today... and I can have it installed by the end of the night!

I'm hoping other VSC members that have the opprotunity will play with their DS systems online via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, and more importantly... play Mario Kart online. I know me and Ace are on board, and Kilik and Sonik too. Hopefully we'll have more followers in the upcoming months, and we can start playing online regullarly as a clan. :tails:

In theory, your DS should be able to pick up the wireless ignal being sent by your router and play online. But if it's a sophisticated router with a firewall with limited connection capabilties and stuff, chances are your DS will experience an error while trying to connect. That's when you can buy the USB dongle, which you just plug inot any working USB port and the DS will connect to it the same way as it does with Hotspots and Routers. You don't have to plug anyhting into the DS, everything's wireless. When I said I have to sit near the register, I mean I can't have anything interfering with my connection between the hotspot and the DS, or that's what the FAQs said. I at first wanted to go to the corner of the McDonald's in a small booth near the bathrooms, but I can't get a connection there. :(

I haven't been able to go to McDonald's yet because I have to watch my sister and her friend here. I'll surely have a Friend Code for you guys by tomorrow. ^_^

I hope that some DS games are smart with their online interface, like being able to use Pictochat online, maybe having it designed as a waiting-room lobby, people can use pictochat while they wait for players to join.... It'd be such an easier way to exchange Friend Codes.. >_>

Well, I just played some Wi-Fi over at my friend's house, because he has a wireless router, and needless to say, it's a fun experience. But since it's over at my friend's if I connect it at a Hotspot or at home (when I buy my USB Dongle/Wireless Router), I'll get a different friend code.. So giving you the one I have registered into the DS right now would be kind of pointless. :/

I totally got murdered while playing Worldwide, though. There was some crazy Jap with 166 Wins and 31 Losses that I nearly beat... I mean I was only off by like half a second. :( And despite the fact that there's only four players at once, the places are always constantly changing because of the items... You could be in dead last in the last lap and still win, and you could be in first place the entire race and then lose at the very last second, which happens more often than not.. Sometimes it gets annoying.

Despite that, it's a very fun game! We have to get a Friends match going.

I set up my router today... and it works with Mario Kart DS. My brother was playing it online before. Anyway, when I get my DS in a few days, I'll post my friend code right here. :mario:

awww..i wanted to try the friends code thing, cause it takes like 5 minutes to get matched up with the match making service :/

this kinda reminds me of the time when everyone got me to suscribe to PSOBB, then noone got it but me and davoid >_>;

well anyways, one of the things that really impressed me was how well matched up i got matched up o_o well...with the playing against your rivals or whatever.
We had such close races, always neck and neck...so close, that when i got a blue shell i hit everyone at once(including myself) right infront of the finish line, then since my kart could speed up the fastest, i won >_>

currently 16 wins, 6 loses

and i also heard that the Mario Kart DS broke a record. Nearly 50% of all copies sold played online within the first 2 weeks thanks to WiFi. That beat Halo 2's record, which i think was 18% within the first 3 weeks. Those numbers for future WiFi games can only go up o_o i wonder if the next halo will be wifi :/
