For the few of you you may not have noticed, Soul Calibur III is now OUT! That's right, it can be yours to own for the PS2. In the third installment of the Soul Calibur series (or should I say the fourth installment of the Soul Blade series?), an array of new features are brought to the battle field... including new modes, three new characters, new stages, new costumes, and even the ability to create your own character and modify pre-existing characters!

Soul Calibur III's opening scene is really awesome... better than the SCII intro, in my opinion. The music is well done too... it's already stuck in my head. And the fighting is as fun and intense as ever!

I'm having a blast with the "create a character" feature. I also create a ninja-esque character named "Ralsy" and a thief-esque female character named "Vipera". So, yea... the game is addicitng.

Anyway, has anyone else played this game yet?... or does anyone plan on playing it, atleast? If not, I recommend you do.

Now respond. o_o

- Oooh! Already played it huh? Don't think it's out here yet... yay... -

I wanna play it.

Wanna create a kool character.

I like:

Kilik
Talim
Jackie *the nunchaku guy*

Those are the main guys I'm hardout with... as well as Siegfried but he went into Nightmare and I don't like Nightmare.

I'll get this out as soon as it appears!

I MUST!

Actually, in Soul Calibur III, you can play as Seigfried or Nightmare. Finally... a choice!

The game has quite a few modes. Although "Weapons Master" mode has not returned... there is a single-player story mode... which has those boring text prompts that set the story... and those awesome battles that make the game great. It's basically an arcade mode, with breaks in between for story line... and there are a few movies thrown in there... some of them interactive... plus you can choose different routes in your adventure!

There's also some stragedy-esque mode... but I can't figure out what to do in it yet. o_o;

Plus there's a tournament mode... and the standard arcade mode... and a new mission mode, that has some of the unique missions from SCII's "Weapons Master" mode.

So yeah, Soul Calibur III has everything. :tails:

- Oooh! YAY! SIEGFRIED! My favourite character in Soul Blade... but... kinda lost in Soul Calibur... but still kool... then I liked Talim and Kilik more... but maybe he'll rise in my hall of used characters again! Weeee! -

Well, as soon as it's out, I'll... RENT it, lol. I don't know about buying it.

Super Smash Bros. Melee is all I need. I like it, it's faced paced, lots of button smashing but needs some tactics... Plus I'm used to it.

Soul Calibur only has 2 people as well... not so insane!

I like insane!

Heheh... <.<" Anyway, I'll reply to this once I rent it... heh... yes... rent...

Namco could have multiplied its sales if it released this game for all consoles. After all, the PS2 version of SCII, despite selling very well, still sold less than the Xbox and GCN versions. The xbox version sold better thanks to the best graphics of the pack, and the GCn sales has the most sales overall solely thanks to the exclusive character, Link. So releasing SCIII on all systems would clearly rack on alot more sales. But hey, Namco would rather give Sony exclusive rights... heh, just what we need... more power going to Sony's head.

Regardless, I'm addicited to SCIII. I thought this game was a waste of 50 bucks, at first... but I came around. Now I like it MORE than SCII. Yea, and I'm gonna review it soon.

Anyway, for your pleasure, the fighters of SCIII are (half the names are probably misspelt):

STANDARD
- Mitsurugi
- Ivy
- Kilik
- Xiangua
- Yueng-sun
- Seung-Mina
- Tira
- Zalamel
- Setsuki
- Raphael
- Astraoth
- Nightmare
- Seigfried
- Maxi
- Talim
- Volvo
- Taki
- Cassandra

UNLOCKABLE
- Sophita
- Lizardman
- Rock
- Cervantes
- Yoshimitsu
- Octacon
- Abyss

And there's bonus and custom characters too! :tails:

Dam SC3 being PS2 exclusive.

Talim in loose socks rocks my box! Talim is one of the hardest characters to master, but can really unload damage when you learn.

I'm hoping that my friends gets SC3, seeing as I don't have a PS2. GC all the Way! Make way for the Revolution!

Well PS2 has pretty much all of the major fighting game franchises on it, except maybe a couple...so it would make more sense to make the PS2 a top prioty to release it to.

Just a slight let-down for me that i wouldnt get this game, only slight. As good as it sounds and probably is im not bending to buy a PS2.

well since the rest of you were posting your best characters i might as well post mine >_>
i was good as...

  • Kilik
  • Mitsurugi
  • Hwang(who was awsome, but then got replaced by a lame dude called Yung Sung >_>)
i think pretty much everyone is good with nightmare >_> nightmare is just hard to beat...ive always had a hard time killing nightmare, unless i use mitsurugi o_o

yeah, i remember my brothers friend showing me this incredible hard combo to do, which can basically kill the person in just one combo...cause you like keep them in the air and keep hitting them, i cant remember it very well...i never even was able to do it, cause i only saw him do it once o_o not even to me

Jackie *the nunchaku guy*

you mean maxi right >_> my brother always played as him...i remember maxi was a pretty hard character to play as, cause he had many stances and very close range attacks, but he could do some really sweet combos if you can get into it. I saw a picture of him for SCIII and he looks much cooler with the skull shoulder things or whatever those are >_>

You know, Kilik, Hwang is in SCIII as a bonus character... basically, that means you can use him in Soul Arena and Verses modes... as opposed to the newer story modes and all. You can also unlock the boss character, Abyss! And there's also some new character... who has got a human body and an owl's head....... o_o

At first, I thought only having 3 slots for custom characters was stupid.... but you can unlock more spaces... adding up to 10 slots total.

I'm pretty good with Nightmare (obviously, who isn't?), Kilik (Pinkyton claims he's cheap), Seung-Mina (she's alright, I guess), and Tira (a new one). :tails:

- What? Talim is easy, she's not exactly a power-house character... plus her range is by FAR a downfall. Kilik on the other hand has lots of range, isn't exactly strong but still, the range is good and he's fast... -

Oh yes, Hwang!

I've pretty much beaten the game on Ultimate or whatever like with every character... except the lame, slow, massive, dumb characters... Ugh...

My favs are Talim, Kilik, Hwang, Maxi...

I kinda like Raphael, but, ugh, he just looks gay, lol.

Well, the moves in this game are easy, it's nothing hard, all it is is just a push of a few buttons and BAM, you've got a combo... not exactly hard, but I mean, trying to remember it while playing in Insane isn't exactly easy... but meh, cheapness is the easiest way to beat computers hahah.

Still, I think my brother can beat me with Nightmare because of that one OVERLY gay move in which you friggin make a crescent with the sword plus it's so fast! Honestly... my brother has no dam skill but I can't beat him!

MUST GET THIS GAME!

MUST BEAT MY BROTHER!

And boo! Only on PS2, that sucks... GCN would've been kool, they could have Link and like Zelda or something <_<" No... not Zelda... who else? Sheik? Maybe... Ganon? No. Hmmm... another character... maybe Marth... yeah Marth! Marth and Roy and Ephraim and everyone from Fire Emblem! WOO GO FIRE EMBLEM!

...Sorry... got carried away there.

GO SOUL CALIBUR!

edit:

Whoops, didn't read your post, Tails, lol.

I suck with Nightmare! I can't use him at ALL! He's just so cheap, I like, can't use him, 'cause I have to use different moves and everything, honestly...

Kilik isn't cheap, NO character is cheap, it's the person, Tails, so nyah! YOU'RE CHEAP!

Sueng Mina's just like Kilik... just a little different, not much.

Tira is someone I have no idea about...

As soon as I play I'll tell you my fav characters... which should be soon.

That's so true... well, the "no character is cheap, it's the person" thing, atleast. I don't think Kilik is cheap at all, unless the player chooses to randomly smash buttons and repetitively uses the same move over and over again. I hate cheapness.

I took think Raphael is gay... plus I simply hate him. I mean I REALLY hate him. He sucks so horribly, in my opinion. o_o

funny you say that, i remember when the first soul calibur came out, and they had the game on demo at target, and i was walking by while this older kid was playing it. And he wanted to play me, and i never played it before of course. i choose Kilik cause he was the main dude...and i think he chose ivy....and i kept just doing the long stick stab thing until he died...and he kept changing characters and i killed him as he played every character...>_> then he chose nightmare and crushed me :/

yeah, those were fun times
