With the ESRB, angry politicians, hundreds of media groups, and the Federal Trade Commission all on Rockstar's back about the "hot coffee" content, it seems that for the GTA-creators at Rockstar, things are rapidly going downhill from here. Just recently, a grandmother from New York announced that she is taking Take-Two Interactive (owner of Rockstar) to court over the "AO" rated game. And I'm sure the argument that will be held against her is... why did you but GTA for your 14-year old son, anyway? But then again, Rockstar would then admit that they do an absolutely horrible job at enforcing the former "M" rating. o_o |

IN all honesty though, Rockstar cannot enforce the M rating too much. That responsibility falls on the retailers and the parents despite how much they don't want to take the blame for buying thier underage child a game full of murder, stealing, violence, prostitues and strippers. |

so...the PC game "Singles" doesnt get an AO rating even though the object of the game is to score with your roommate? And "the Sims" gets a T rating even though of the "sex/nudity"? The whole ratings/censorship system is flawed!!! KILL'EM ALL!!!! |

well, the sims i have played normally has that stuff censored. never heard of that game singles
:/ well this little "happening" should definetly make a difference in the "next-generation" of games...ive seen it somewhat in the xbox360 and nintendo revolution that they are trying to make a more child safe system....but who knows what ps3 doing...they just spent one million dollars on research for enhancing graphics and putting it into a console >_> |

I still find it a bit odd that all of this is over toys. Afterall, video games are toys... thus explaining why they were once meant solely for the entertainment of kids. But nowadays, toys are for all ages... with all these new gadgets, like digital cameras, advanced cell phones, iPods, and laptop computers... adults can't get enough of them. So, yea... video games are toys... yet it spawns all this controversey. Just don't buy the toy then... sheesh. Although I guess the whole "Rockstar hid porn from us" think should get alot of people mad. o_o; I guess Rockstar can't do much to enforce the "M" rating... that job is up to the retailers, indeed. But Rockstar put a "Warning! Ages 17 and up!" notice right on the box art of "State of Emergency", so why not GTA? Rockstar should atleast put the warning on the box, to accompany the "M" rating. Heh, I just read about an article regarding the PS3, and how Playstation creator Ken Kutaragi wants the PS3 to run an operating system. In the article, it said, and I quote... "Kutaragi was derisive of Nintendo and Microsoft, labeling their upcoming next generation systems as "toys" as compared to the PS3 "supercomputer"." DUH. Video games ARE toys! OMFG what a RETART! Singles's objectie is to score with your roommate, but it doesn't actually show you scoring with your roommate. There's a difference. So, talking about scoring, and hiring hookers is deemed "OK" by the ESRB, but actually seeing the "behind the scenes" action is forbidden. Makes perfect sense to me. |

Heh, all the videos of the PS3 at E3 were all fakes, if you guys didn't know already. They claimed all the PS3's were running actual games, but then a little later (a week) they annoinced they were having problems CREATING the cell chip. Once the smart masses realized this, Sony apologized and claimed "We were showing the games on hardware that will, to the best of our knowledge, be as close to the actual specs of the console at launch". |

Hmmm... apparently Sen. Clinton has passed a bill in Illinois about making it ILLEGAL to sell "M" rated games to minors... and they also are in the talks of making a federal bill. o_o Well, Sony has been known to "put on a show", so regardless whether the PS3 is up and running or not... they'll have something on display to make the audience go "wow". That's really Sony's marketing strategy. They get gamers excited for a system long before it's prepared for launch. Why do you think the Dreamcast did so poorly? People didn't buy Dreamcasts because they already set money aside for the PS2. Months and months before the PS2 even launched, fans were already amazed by the system's power (which, ironically... was easily outbeaten by Nintendo and Microsoft's consoles... Xbox mostly) and had already decided which console they'd stick with during the "next-generation" of gaming. Sony tried the same thing with the PSP. The hype was clearly there. I personally heard more "word on the street" prior to the PSP launch than the DS launch (however, it is ironic that the DS outsold the PSP by FAR in Japan, and by, what is becoming a close margin in America). And with the PS3, the scheme... erm, well-played marketing... is there. I already know a handful of casual gamers who have announced that they will solely choose the PS3 when the new batch of systems comes out. I've also already heard, "that new FFVI game for the PS3 is going to be awesome!" and "the PS3 graphics look so sweet!"... yet those tech demos you saw weren't running on a PS3 nor a close-to-PS3 model... they were running from, to the best of my knowledge, a computer. And although I certaintly believe the PS3 will be one hell of an impressive machine, it upsets me severely how casual gamers have all been fooled. They've announced their "holy matrimony" with the PS3 long before they've seen what the system can do (although nobody truly knows what the system is capable of). And if there's one thing I've learned from Kaz Hirai and Ken Kutaragi, those Sony bastards can't be trusted (I applaude Sony hardware and applaude Sony's marketing... meh to the software, for te most part... but to hell with their management!!! THOSE BASTARDS!). I really don't want Sony to have the spotlight this time around. Their egos are too high, and what goes around really needs to come around. Personally, I believe that, during the next-generation, Nintendo deserves more respect (afterall, they've got something nobody else has... experience) and Microsoft deserves the spotlight (they've really had quite an impact on the market with the Xbox thus far, huh?). That's my opinion. (Although the one thing I'd like more than that, is perfect harmony... all systems get recongnized for their strengths in hardware and software... but that opinion isn't all too pratical in a world of hate!) But that'll never happen. As long as there are casual gamers, "casual" games and "casual" systems will prevail. Hopefully that won't have any huge effects on the market, so video games won't be ruined for the rest of us. EDIT: Well, now Austrailia has passed a law making it illegal to sell GTA to anyone. Meanwhile, the FTC is still probing Rockstar over this whole dilemma. |
