Remember all those "special edition" packs that came with hype-games, like halo, MT2 Echoes, etc? Remember that "For 5 $ more, or 10, you get a DVD, strategy guide, etc."? Well, basically, that was a study to see whether people would spend 10 bux more on a video game. And the results were astounding to the publishers. Bottom line- Don't expect Revolution, XB2 and PS3 games to be 50$. ~60 say major publishers. Why? As potential increases, as does customer demands for better games. Better games mean Better people, Better Salaries, More time to make these games. How will people react when games touch the 60$ ceiling? Actually, ticket prices for movies have increased from ~5 to ~10 dollars, but a little bit at a time, while gamers have been paying 50$ for a while now, so the sudden jolt to 60$ might make buyers cring for buying only choice titles. And only choice titles means only choice people making the titles, and only choice salaries. And then people choose the choice of the choice, and developers only take the choicest of the choice programmers, who demand huge salaries, and so on, and we have this HUGE inflation in the video game market, similar to what happened to the German Mark before WWII. Remember history? Let's hope people can learn from it. 60 will soon turn to 75, then to 90, until you're paying more for each game than for the system itself! However, it will make publishers think twice before releasing a game. Game's like "That's so Raven" won't be published, but some true gems that look rough on the surface will remain unnoticed because of the competition. Only really good titles will line the shelf's, and game reviews will become non-existant, lolz. What to you guys think about this? Random Note- That's So Raven has been announced for the DS. |

Yeah, I think game prices are going out of control. I still think 50$ is pretty expensive for just a game. $60 is going too far. All gaming companies always want more money so they are always going to try and up the price. I agree that game prices will soar above the price of the system (if the games are good). I think that alot of todays games are getting more crappier because game companies can't think of any good ideas so they use spongebob or some other retarded, money soaking character and make a game with it. Only the good and amazing games will convince people to buy them at unnormally high prices. There have been quite a few hot games for systems and new systems that really made companies up the prices this year. I think that fewer good attractive games will be produced in the future, therefore lowering the price of the games. Unless game companies think up of some other hit classic, gaming ideas will probably grow crappier. The only thing I can imagine that gaming could evolve into is virtual reality, but it is still impossible to do now. So I predict prices will drop as a result of crappy made games and lack of good genuine ideas. However I don't know what ways the companies might use to convince thousands of gamers to buy their products. But I think prices will decline in the future. (hopefully). |

lug lug wait a minute now. who said spongebob and nickelodeon games were crappy. i think they are great.(jk) ya they are great for the little kids who have the t shirts and are obsessed with them. not every game is for kids our age and u have to understand that. now to what i think on this inflation. i agree with lug 50$ is a lot thats why i wait till the price drops to 40$ unless it is an outstanding game that i know i will enjoy. companies just think that their prices can go up with every game. in the future more younger ppl will be paying ridiculous prices for crappy games that they will only play for a week. it is insane. now they think if they give u a value pack for with a dvd of how the game was made and a guide it will be worth 60$. i would like to know how many ppl actually watch the dvd's on this. it is a complete waste of money. if u are only going to play the game then just buy the game for 50$ not 60$. i could buy a number of stuff for both of these. look at halo for example. it started at 50$ and a year later it was at 20$. play it at a friends and then buy it when the prices are low. that is what i would do. yes this is my first long post |

Yeah your one of the smart "I don't have to have this game right now" gamer. If the majority of gamers were like that, then prices will be definatly lowered. However most gamers today must have certain games right away and they don't care how expensive it is. The gaming markets are taking advantage of it by rising the price cause they know that gamers just wanna blow their money on games. (these people are typically the rich people who could care less if they lose 60$ or more.) But I hope all gamers will buy smartly so we wouldn't have to put up with inflated prices. BTW, spongebob is nothing but a huge money soaker, the games might be good because the rich managers who own the spongebob empire probably hired really good game programmers. But from the look of the game, it looks crappy. (Battle for Bikini Bottom WTF!!) |

I have no problems with Spongebob games or Scooby Doo games or anything else of that sort... after all, might as well let the little ones be happy, right? Nobody says you have to play it, after all. While I'm on that note, let Square-Enix continue to make Final Fantasy games for the hardcore fans. Let Rockstar make GTA games for the gamers thirsty for "don't do this at home" antics. Let Konami make more DDR games for those who like to dance. Let EA Games make sports games for the casual gamers. Whether or not you like a game or not, let it be. There will be games you like and games you hate, and some dude somewhere might hate the game you like, and like the game you hate. For example, I get a kick out of people who enjoyed Killzone (sounds crazy to me), bu people actually do enjoy it. An some people out there really don't likeFinal Fantasy, or Halo, or Zelda... that's just how it is. Wow. I rambled. Anyway, yea... prices generally start out high for new consoles. But rest assured, the prices eventually should drop. For example, GBA games cost about 40 bucks at launch... then they were 30 bucks... no alot of new releases on the GBA are simply 20 bucks. And what about PS2/GCN/XBOX games? They've been at 50 bucks a piece since the beginning, but recently you see even major releases at lower prices, such as 30 or 40 bucks. I'm sure as prices start high, they'll eventually dip low. I agree, though. 50 dollars for a game really adds up. o_o; |

the reason the prices drop is because there is so much ppl who buy the good games in the first week. they preorder it and have the date on their calender. after the first week not a lot of ppl buy it. then the price drops and more ppl buy it |

- Is the conversion of $US to $NZ x3? So if I had $6000, I'd only have approx. $2000? That's so unfair! So I have to be 3x of your money... *sigh* I feel so poor around people these days, but at least Rupees and Yen are lower, a LOT lower. Or at least I think they are... - $60? I'm not sure if that's much to me, but yeah, if so, then it would be approx. $180?! Man... Us NZers spend $120 for each individual game, but I'm not sure if that's bad or good... it sounds bad when compared to your LOWER prices, but then again... maybe your work pay is worse? Lol... I haven't heard anything about our prices going up... maybe it's just you guys, hah, HAH! But $50 is so less! I get $50 for my (seemingly unreasonable being given) pocketmoney, yes, I STILL get it, and I DON'T have a job, and I DON'T have my licence until next year when I'm 15, w00t... Rrright, so as I was saying. A $10 increase is quite a lot, damn producers aren't getting enough profit because they're wasting it on useless games which only about 1000 people buy, instead of 10000000000 like for Halo 2. (That's 10 0's.) They should make more games like that, insanely popular... something revolutionarly awesome that people just HAVE to have it and MUST play it, and every sequel... $50... $120... even $130... ... ... $50... wish that was our price. |

[On an unrelated note, I just bought a PS2 Internet Adaptor for 40$! Huzzah! And on another unrelated note: 40$?! WTF! The Internet Adaptor has been manufactured since the beginning of Online console games... What if they make accesories for consoles more expensive, too? I don't want to pay 40$ for a Micro Controller by MadCatz!] You know, Sega 2K sports games actually release at an unbelieveably cheap price (~20$!), and 2K games are actually pretty good. Quality games that tend to constantly sell throughout the months stay at a hefty price. Let's take Burnout 3 for example. I found it on sale for 40$. 40! That means after 6 months EA has only dropped its price by 10$! I am more conerned about what will happen when we run out of oil, and gasoline prices skyrocket. Me and Sirias will be driving by 2006, and what will happen to prices then? Anyways... I'm not too afraid about the price rises in these games. They will drop eventually, and smart comanies such as Sega, EA, and Nintendo will certainly drop their game prices when they find that the supply/demand ratio is losing them profits. But I will be getting a job at Chick-Fil-A this Summer... I will have lots more cash to waste on games!
