Hey. Tails here. I just though I'd share a rather... eh, interesting thing that just happened to me. You see, it all happened back on... February 18th or so... when my PC was suddenly getting random pop-ups, even if no browsers were open. This became a nuisance during online gaming, because the pop-ups would interupt gameplay and screw everything up. In addition to the pop-ups, I'd get fatal errors sometimes. You know, when Windows XP blue toolbar turns into the horrid, gray classic toolbar, and everything freezes... and that scray blue screen appears bearing the inevitable news that the "Logon system process terminated unexpectedly", and how the "System has been shut down". I hate those. Oh yeah, and annoying programs install themselves on my desktop, like "XXXPoker"... that doesn't sound fun. o_o Anyway, I have protection on my compy, I assure you. I ran a scan with multiple programs, trying to detect viruses, infections, spyware, adware, malware, trojans, worms, unwanted files, unwanted dlls, unwanted winsocks, the whole kaboodle! A particular file that was created on the date of my compy's acting-up-ness, known as dolsp.dll, arose my attention. I learned that dolsp.dll was a nasty winsock from a third-party source, and I know it's responsible for the huge mess of pop-ups and slow down I'm getting! So I found a site with this one file, which can remove unwanted winsocks. So I downloaded it, and removed dolsp.dll (in the past, I tried to use HijackThis! to remove the file, but it failed... and I couldn't even delete dolsp.dll manually in safe mode, sheesh)... and everything appeared fine. I won! But then I tried to access the internet... yea, it didn't work. I tried it many times, with no luck. I read the disclaimer that came with the file I used to remove dolsp.dll... and apparently the removal of dolsp.dll also changed wsock32.dll in the process... which is bad. I paniced, but found a solution. System restore, my friends. It's literally the same thing as the Delorean in Back to the Future. You select a date in which your PC has created a "check point", and you go back in time to the selected date. New files and modifications made to your PC in between the current date and the "check point" date are lost. Yea so, I went back in time to Sunday, February 20th, and now everything works.... but dolsp.dll still runs amuck! On a side note, wouldn't that be funny if, just like Back to the Future... because I went back in time to erase a recent doing... the February 22nd, 2005 that my compy is currently experiencing isn't the same February 22nd, 2005 you guys are? *Gasp!* My compy is in an alternate dimension! Eh, I won't give up. I'll get you, you damn dolsp.dll screwer-uper! Mark my words, I will. I hate you dolsp.dll!!! o_o |

In your dreams... >_> Heh, what happened is... I ran that program I got yet another time to try to remove dolsp.dll. This time, it worked... AND my internet connection didn't get screwed up! But... my compy did lag, my pop-ups are still abundant, I get error messages at startup about "Umonitor", ad programs install themselves on my desktop, and the FATAL ERROR warnings still appear randomly. Heh. You see, I'm dealing with more than just dolsp.dll. I'm actually dealing with the latest VX2 infection, and it's a nasty one. Hundreds and hundreds of other online users have gotten the infection and are panicing just like I am. They've got the same symptoms, too. I'm still trying to find a solution, but that might involve downloading MORE antispyware programs and MORE third-party "one-wrong-move-and-your-PC-is-toast" programs... *sigh* I'll still try to make that clan meeting tomorrow at 8:00 PM EST, though... o_o |

A good anti-spyware program, huh? I guess getting AdAware would be my best suggestion, or you could get the new Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta. That's actually even better than AdAware, but it's "Safe Guard" function can get annoying when it constantly annoys you every little mildly suspicious thing your computer does. Although that's actually a good thing... o_o HijackThis is also good. It's not really an anti-spyware program as far as scanning-and-removing things go... it's more of a "skip the scan and destroy as you please" kinda thing. If you know what you're doing, it's cool. [off topic]Hey! I saw Muff today online... so we went and played Maple Story. Damn, he's a level 28 or something...! But I got some nifty experience![/off topic] |

[Off Topic] NOOOO! Tails is slowly being sucked into that acursed game Maple Story.. And will be stuck to it as if he is in Maple Syrup! And that's where they get the name Maple Story! It's basically a Story about of bunch of freebie-gamers, who got stuck in it's syrupy goodness, and never really managed to pull themselves out! Have you every tried swimming in a pool of Maple Syrup? It's delicious, but at the same time HORRIFYING as you keep getting sucked in and you can't swim out! Drowning in Maple Syrup is so much worse than drowning in water... Did I mention I have a phobia of drowning or watching people drown (like in movies)? I can't stand it, and whenever it pops up I have to run out of the room or it stays in my head for the next few weeks.
[/Off Topic]Hah... I would suggest the following: McAffee Antivirus Spybot - Search and Destroy Ad-Aware Absoluteshield Internet Eraser Now Absoluteshield blocks pop ups on any internet browser or if they pop up randomly, and if you go into the program there are options to clear out any temporary internet files, which are normally where viruses begin. It also opens up a lot of memory of your computer and RAM... Because it deletes all the waste like cookies, old internet history, and even some unused programs (and I mean unused for years). |

Hmm..... I suggest McAffee Antivirus, it works really well. I have it too, but anyway my opinion really doesn't matter, just repeating what ace said.
O well at least I have a clear conscious now.

My friends, 'tis a glorious day. I, Tails, have single-handedly defeated the horde of unwanted files on my computer that, along with the nafarious dolsp.dll, make up the latest, pratically unstoppable VX2 infection! Using some "L2mfix" program, I ran the "fix" and everything was fine. But I'm really pissed at those professional sites that make you post your log and inspect it before you run a "fix", because they never freakin' respond! And that "Don't run fix until you're told to do so" crap is BS! If it weren't for that STUPID disclaimer, I could've fixed my PC days ago! Alas, I figured it out myself... and the Rals rises triumphant again. Now I can play MapleStory with no delay! ![]() None of those programs you guys listed can destroy the new VX2 infection. The running processes can't be deleted because they are running, and non-running processes that are deleted eventually respawn. Plus, much of the VX2's products aren't in any program's library yet. And Ace, I no longer trsut AdAware, because they took out "WhenU" as a form of spyware... when it clearly is spyware! Grrrr.... I recommend HijackThis and other advanced programs. You deserve to be in control... not Lavasoft or Microsoft or McAffee... o_o |
