Nintendo's new portable console, the Nintendo DS< has had a highly successful launch, with over half a million units sold in the US alone within the first week. DS's expected competitor, the PSP, will launch next year in the US. While nobody knows which system will come on top at the moment, some believe the PSP's ability to play video formats and mp3s give it the upper edge. Well, to make that speculation absolutely, positvely false, Nintendo has designed a new upgrade component for the DS! Read this article posted below for more details on this multimedia player (article from IGN.COM)...
Thus, you can watch movies and play mp3s on your DS (or GBA/GBA SP)! It sounds like a nice "extra" for the DS. I still stand by the idea of 'a gaming console being made solely for gaming', however. DVD players and mp3 players aren't ever necessary... but it certainly adds a nice touch. |

Lolz, don't waste your money. You can get a perfetly good flash cart which can play movies AND play music AND look at pictures AND read books from for a slightly higher cost.....you can also play games for free on it, but that's up to you. Anywayz, looks like Nintendo is finally looking at the competition. Great to see they are making advances. GO DS! |

hmmm...this makes an interesting competition. 2 japanese companies introducing handheld consoles. for me, i have no freaking clue about which one is better. they both have very unique and original qualities and features that make them stand out. well the only way we can REALLY tell is popularity contest. |

wow that easily puts the DS way ahead of the PSP in my book, considering now the only better thing on the psp is graphics (but with that lame ass battery life who cares?) at least i think so...hsu or sum1 will probally tell me otherwise though.. lol..you all got festive avatars..time for sinow to get in on the action >.> |

ummm...gs, thats not all the psp has to offer. one, yes, the graphics are phenominal. i saw screens of a new football game, and the players actually did look real. it also has a built in dvd player, gigantic screen, listen to music, (these r listed in tails post) and overall better than the ps2, even when its a handheld! im not saying i hate the ds and am a sony fanboy, im just helping out for people to see the differences. |

As bizarre as this may seem, my favorite thing about the PSP isn't its graphics, games, size, or multimedia capabilities... it's that widescreen that's freakin' awesome! lol... Eh, the PSP's graphics are really good... a first for portable consoles... and the console's graphical potential is even better. But, thus far, many of the images sen so are on par with PS2 graphics, and the general resolution makes the IN-GAME footage look a bit pixely. I'm sure they'll slightly improve over time, of cource... but at the moment, PSP fans don't have much reason to brag about "PSP's graphics dominating the DS's". As developers explore the PSP further, we can expect excellent graphics, and only THEN can PSP fans trash the DS. They can have a field day with it, if they wanted... Likewise, DS's potential will also be reached as time progressed... |

Get your facts straight papa. The PSP Does not play DVD's. It play MOVIES, but not DVD's. Only movies selected by sony to be transfered into it's UMD's can be played on the PSP. Really, now with all this stuff coming out for DS, PSP is starting to look more and more like a GBA 2.0 |

And in fact, the DS truly looks like is has the graphical power that's in between that of the N64 and the GCN, when you look at a screenplay of Super Mario DS, is looks MUCH more polished and less polygonial-looking than the first, and I can't wait for more revamped versions of N64 classics such as Mario Kart, Mario Golf, Mario Tennis, Mario Party, ZELDA, Cruisin' USA, RUSH!, and Super Smash Bros. Man, SSB would SO PWN on the DS.
 Some arcade hits such as Ridge Racer are also making the scene, looking at the DS a revivial for all the old arcade games you overlook now because their graphics are outdated. Ooh! WIRELESS METAL SLUG! NFL BLITZ! It's like a pocket sized tidal wave of nostalgia. Rush pwned, by the way. Out. |

I think I'm gonna go with the DS, if I get either of these new handhelds. I still believe that real gaming is having a controller in your hands, sitting on the couch/armchair, and having a screen bigger than the controller to look at! But, yeah, Nintendo is finally realizing that they have the ability to beat Sony in this market, and I'm glad they are working at that now. -Time for me to pull out Santa Muffin too!- Oh yeah, and now that I changed it, I'm gonna leave it up there until June!!! MAYHEM AND CHAOS!!! |

I just played mario 64 DS and it was fun. I don't own a DS yet , I borrowed it from a guy at my dad's work for the day. I got like 21 stars already. Playing Mrio 64 on the Nintendo 64 really helps. There are alot of new features in mario DS but the game still has most of the old features. The DS itself is sweet. It costs about 129.99 $. The pictochat is neet because you can talk to people within a certain distance and play games with them. the bottom screen is a touch screen and it comes with a pen to touch it with. well I really like it. I don't know how well Sony will do with the PSP cause I haven't heard of any good games for it. Well I think Nintendo did a smart move by getting the DS out in time for christmas, which will boost their sales alot. But if I had to choose between the DS or the PSP it would be the DS. |

oh come on, u know what i mean... im in favor for the ds, i think the idea of the touch screen is very innovative and will put a different side into handheld gaming. plus, u dont have to worry about broken discs, the games r dinky little chips (which most of u know by now). just make sure u dont lose them, given their size. psp is basically a handheld ps2, not much difference in either one of them except maybe graphics. oh btw, if u r looking for a kid that is a complete sony fanboy, i happen to know someone. so if u have any bottled up gaming stress against sony, then contact Lesolithe on AIM |

I just realized how dumb the idea of playing movies on your PSP/DS really is. I mean, since it doesn't play the standard DVD format, but rather a format exclusive to the system, the only videos we can expect are Sony-owned films and crappy anime on the PSP, along with Nintendo's upcoming films and boring cartoon shows. Each movie would probably run at 25 bucks each, which isn't worth it since it can only be played with one particular player. But the whole mp3 thing is cool!

ya really, why spend time and money getting a converted movie into a small chip or CD. u can just go rent it for like 3 bucks. u r right about that. i guess ds and psp just want to add something cool to it for if u r goin on long trips and stuff like that and dont want to worry about buying a portable dvd player. |

Well, the DS has better launch games and future titles, thats the most important. I mean, look: DS: New Zelda, Mario DS, Metroid Hunters, Xenosaga DS, FFIII (First time in US), and other kool stuff PSP: MGS Card Battler (WTF!), Gran Turismo 4, and a bunch of crap no one cares much about. O, yah, well, Papa...Drew (Lesolithe) is very right though, hes not a fanboy anyway. PSP is way more advanced and the wide screen rox. The graphics and sound systems on the PSP are also grand. I would want to rub my ***** on it in love! (jk) Touch screens really just would distract from the core gameplay right? I haven't played either yet though...If I was going to buy one though, it would be DS! Why? The technology is still great for a handheld, the launch games do not suck, and...Its @$$ cheap compared to the PSP! The PSP is like...250$!! Wtf... |

is anyone going to do PSP news. cause it would be good to have DS news and PSP news
<_< i also dont really like the idea much of the DS and PSP being able to play MP3s and Movies....cause that means that ive wasted so much money buying DVDs and VHS and TVs and CDs and stuff.....anyways its all going to be a big waste cause 10 years from now theres going to be something else....with even more features....probably like a mini computer ,you can watch tv on, with games ,and cell phone, can watch movies ,and listen to music ,and cook you food...in a watch...like in the jetsons.. the DS and PSP movie players would definetly not be as good quality as that of any DVD Player :/ anyways id hate to hold the DS or PSP infront of me the whole time i watch a 2 hour movie >_> that would get boring. remember once we had to hold a 10 pound weight infront of us....completly extend your arms....it aches alot after awhile :/ the mp3 player is probably a smarter idea then the movie player....but one of the best things about an mp3 player(i think) is its size...and theres definetly smaller mp3 players then the DS and PSP o_o just something for you guys to think about(and try to prove me wrong...i dare you, especially sinow....id like to see him prove me wrong >_>) while i sleep the rest of the day (after wrestling practice of course) |
