- In the past 15 years, the Nintendo Corp. has actually beaten, every single playable portable system that tried to compete with Gameboy. Nintendo's way of thinking has shown that people look more into the point of 'FUN' not in the way of 'graphics, music or anything related'. All of the others have failed, due to Nintendo's power in 'fun-factor' - It is said by Reggie Fils-Aime, EVP of sales and marketing, that Nintendo has set the eyes of most people, because of how Nintendo makes the gamer feel when they're playing on the Gameboy. Many fans of the GB are awaiting the newly announced DS, which is coming out hopefully by 2005. Most of these will be looking into the variety of graphics, music etc. but mostly into the splendour of the games fun. Here is something that Reggie has said.
As you can see, the DS offers socialization by allowing players to play against one another in either close proximity (more or less meaning they have to be inside a close enough zone to play each other) or by getting the long distant wireless internet browser. Having up to 16 players against each other is an experience that any gamer will have to do, before knowing what gaming has truly evolved to. 15 years of winning will surely make people want to get this, if they're good enough to win for 15 years, they're obviously good enough to do things that we can only imagine. The DS will be a world-wide phenemenon (or however you spell it) and will create a new gaming place, for everyone. |

wait i thought the sega gamegear beat the first gameboy because of the color and backlight. but then the GBC and GBA and SP rolled along and obviously beat out the bulky, ancient, sega gamegear. so were they beaten or do u mean like as of right now? |

Papa, did you even read Sirias's post? The GameGear didn't beat out the GameBoy in entertainment. The source in Sirias's post is pointing out how entertainment is what makes something that is game-related great and popular, not technology. "Even Sony's recent experience underlines the entertainment/technological distinction. EyeToy far outsells and out-wows the technologically superior PSX in Japan. Why? Because EyeToy entertains. Many handheld competitors offered more sophisticated technology, but Game Boy has always offered real entertainment." So, as Sirias's post mentions, and as that quote emphasizes... entertainment outrules technology any day. The gamegear had the color and backlight... but it's games were lacking. Thus, the system offered less entertainment quality than the GameBoy did. In technology, GameGear won. In entertainment, GameBoy beat the GameGear. |
