Gamespot.com's popular exclusive feature that tracks down and anaylzes rumors, known as Gamestop Rumor Control, has claimed a rather unique rumor absolutely positive. The rumor, which has been confirmed as true by Gamestop, is as followed... "Some lunatic has turned an original PlayStation into a handheld." It's no joke, someone actually did attempt to do this, and the result is quite shocking. It's semi-professional looking, and it looks like it could have been made by Sony themselves. Here are some pictures of the finished device...![]() ![]() Not too bad, eh? The guy calls it the PalmPSone. Keep in mind, however, that the PalmPSone isn't the PSP (obviously)... it's just the PS1 (or as some called it before the age of PS2, PSX) gone portable. Think of it like the Sega Nomad... it's just a portable Genesis system. The system itself is impressive, since the guy who designed it doesn't work for Sony or anything like that. But I wouldn't say the PalmPSone is really even necessary... since the current PS1 model is small as it is... and a LCD screen is availible for it. Whatever, the concept is still interesting. For more info on this device, click here. |

so is this gonna be on the market together with the PSP? it looks ok but a bit tacky looking. also with the speakers on top it makes bulkier and less "sleek" like the PSP. in my opinion, id rather buy the PSP. does this PalmPSone play like ps2 games or does it still play psone games?? |

Yo buddy, don't get on the guy who made this about the fact that it doesn't look sleek and small-ish looking. This was just ONE GUY, working alone in his garage with some plastic, chips, bolts, Playstation controller parts, small speakers and the will to do what seemed both insane and stupid at the same time. He had NO help from Sony whatsoever. The PSP on the other hand, let's say 120 people working trhough day and night in a giant building with over 20 Million dollars in manufacturing funds, computer and technology specialists and enough computer power to host a game like GunBound. Anyone see a difference? Anyways, I heard about something like this, but the guy made a portable Atari! It played all the Atari games like Frogger, Pong, Mario, Joust, etc. And had an old style feel with a wood-style covering and exposed bolts keeping it together. The screen is about 2/3s larger than the GBA's, and has a design somwhat like a Game Boy Color, but twice as big. I dunno if they'll sell either of these two portable consoles, but just shows what you can dow ith enough time on your hands.
Out. |

I think the creator is planning on distributing PalmPSone consoles privately. He's not publically releasing them, and it's JUST a Playstation gone PORATBLE. That's it. No enhanced or alternated hardware. It's still a PS1, and plays just PS1 games. Understand? The PSP is entirely different, and needs not be compared... except for the fact that they both are referred to as portable playstations. The name is the only real similarity. |

I think the person who made it would only make another few to give to his friends and enighbors, maybe some online buddies who were supporting him during the time he was working on it. If you visit the site, you can see what he had to go through for three months just to make this thing. He had to use two PS's, and spent about a month just designing the case on his computer.
So, I doubt anyone is going to get their hands on it.Out. |

This is going to be hilarious if this thing beats Sony's PSP. Well i think that playing your old ps1 games is a great idea for portable usage. The device looks like it could do well in the market. If this thing goes out now, they probably can make some money before the super advanced PSP comes out. Hopefully the guy who created it has got a patent and wasn't seized by sony. |

well ace once he gets his prototype finished and working (which he already has) making more will be all downhill(not in a bad way, i mean it will be easier). but lug, i dont think it would beat the PSP because people are gonna want the new and better games to play instead of ps1 games like twisted metal. |

If you look at the site, the thing HAS been made.. No prototype, and he really can't make more for marketing because FIRST: Sony has already put a copyright on their Sony Playstation, and technically all he did was make another Playstation, but portable. If he tries to sell or patent his PalmPSone, he wil be sued by Sony's mighty lawyers. Jebus, you mean you hadn't figured that out until now? These guys don't even have the money to patent and ship hundreds or thousands of PalmPSones anywhere, it would cost around 50,000-100,000$ to get a a factory to manufacture them anyway. This dude's not rich... And plus Sony's copyright law is breathing down their neck. Don't you have any brains?

Ok so this guy made this awesome handheld for nothing? Why the hell would someone create a sweet handheld and if they cannot even sell it or make money. I think Sony will seize it and probably use it to make a PS2 handheld. Then Nintendo is in deep trouble. Well actually all nintendo has to do is attach a screen to the game cube and its prctacally a handheld. |

"Huh? What is Tails doing here? Shouldn't he be on vacation?" Yep. And I am on vacation... right now. I'm actually in Baltimore. Okay, I lied. I'm right outside Baltimore. Big deal... You're looking outside the box, Lug. He didn't create it to market the product... he created it to simulate a unique and fun gaming experience. I mean, he's only one person... he doesn't have the profits, manpower, or legal patents to distribute the system. But he does have the ability to design something of his own... something new and unseen. It's not meant for mass production, it's meant for his peronal enjoyment... and maybe even to prove his technical achievement.
Twisted Metal: World Tour has been announced for the PSP, you know... and for the record, Twisted Metal is friggen awesome!
