- I've seen what this looks like in a GameFreaks magazine, and personally, it doesn't look as good as DS. Though it doesn't look great on the exterior then interior might just overwhelm the DS, can it handle it? No one knows... -

PSP is going to be one of Sony's best creations yet, being one of the most recent and wanted handheld system. Nintendo DS and Sony PSP are going head-to-head to see who is better at being the most efficient, awesome gaming system ever made, but will PSP meet the standards of everyone's hopes? Or will it fall and die like N-Gage. Or maybe DS will become something that people just aren't looking for and maybe turn their sights towards PSP? No one knows until these come out with every person working on its success.

As you can see it doesn't look that great, with only one screen and a whole lot of buttons, it might just be too similar to what everyone has. But, it's not what the looks people are looking for, they're looking for what the system can reallyy handle and hopefully PSP will satisfy the needs of gamers around the world. Although it is black and looks a little like the PS controller, it might be more of a hit than touch screen of analog.

Games are beginning to spread and become more of a priority for the Sony organisation and it looks like they'll be doing a good job, so far they've got around 10 games out, hoping that more and more will come with new modified graphics and unique game-play. Armoured Core has just been said to be a part of the PSP and look at how it's come out. Not small budget graphics, but a small handheld system capable of handling even these tough graphics...

Although they can't be shown in it's bigger form, you could just easily go to where they are.

PSP is actually TRYING to beat PS2 in graphics and seems to be going quite well in a recent game. Are you impressed by it's awesomness or do you need some more non-exaggerrated info on this portable playstation?

The PSP isn't only going to be a handheld system, it's going to be a world-wide phenomenon, launching all over the city and obliterating the PS into heaven or hell wherever it was created. This new and psycho system is going to be launched in Japan this year and hopefully around most of the globe by 2005. It's trying to get a lot of games, but can these keep everyoen occupied whilst they bring out one of their master-pieces? Or is the Sony team going to stall for ages... Look at how many games are being made or made so far.

I'm not sure whether the DS has more or less or maybe the same, but the PSP is trying hard to get as many games as possible before its launch into the world. If it doesn't get more games, I don't think that everyone will be pleased by their views on this portable playstation 2. DS will be matching the PSP in every way possible and try to overpower the PSP. Will the Sony team be able to keep this going? Or can the Nintendo Team keep up with the PSP? These question will be answered by at hope, 2005.

wow..its look..exactly like a mix of a ps2 controller and a gameboy advance..kool but..weird...might b kinda complex with all those buttons and expensive 2 cuz of the graphics..so thats kinda off for a handheld system..but still..the graphics are very good..of course on a tiny screen like htat its hard to appriciate them..but..neways..hopefully the psp does good..if not sony always has the ps3

- I don't know whether PSP can go against DS. PSP just looks like a wider version of a gameboy with 1000x better graphics. Still, you never know, some people might want this. -

It'll probably be expensive, but it's not any different to DS, because that's more original and will probably cost alot. They'll be around the same price, but maybe, Nintendo will lower the price or Sony will, just so people buy mroe of them. But PSP doesn't look much different to anything I've seen, it's so similar to GBA, even GBA SP looks better than that. SP looks like DS (what the heck is with the abbreviations?) and people who like unique things which put more challenge into whatever you play, will probably buy this from looks and from game-play.

I'm not sure whether I'll get this, even if I do, it'll take ages for me to be able to buy any of these games, and I don't think they'll make these games for rent, or maybe they will. But GCN games aren't rentable in NZ, well, not from where I go which is like 5 places...

PSP will probably try and overwhelm the DS with graphic power, but that's about it, they can't really change game-play or a different style of that, so it'll just be a bigger, maybe even more uglier version, of the GBA. Sorry, Sony, maybe they should try to make a REALLY strange looking one... not something similar.

Okay, first of all.... Kaz Hirai... you're a moron.... I hate your soul.... you're a disrespectful, self-centered pile of rotting vegetable matter.... but despite you.... I support Sony and their next generation consoles, from the new PS3 to the critically acclaimed PSP. Second, I'm anxious to see how the PSP feels and plays. Nobody has actually tested a game on the system yet (well, nobody outside the walls of Sony headquarters), so thus far we're all excited about specs... which are simply approximate numbers and suggested functions. Wow. I can't believe we're so excited about numbers and info. Too bad math class doesn't excite you in the same way, right?

But I guess we're also excited about the system's sleek look, that had the DS's original look slaughtered. But since DS got a slight makeover, and gained a more attractive appearance... the PSP isn't really much more attractive than the DS... and the DS has an advantage over the PSP in price.

The PSP's estimated price (in US currency) is $300+ (that means 300 dollars or more), while the DS's is expected to be only $180. The PSP will have improved graphical power, and video playback (using small dvd-like discs)... so it's obviously gonna cost more.

Thus far, it's too early to tell anything, though. We'll just have to wait.... anxiously.... while twitiling our thumbs....

i heard a few bad things about the PSP already.....

one it uses disk.....i dont really think disk are the best to use for portable things. disk are much easier to break and there not as "portable" as cartridges. even though the thing uses mini disk.

second...i heard that the PSP has only 6 hours of battery life...that is real crappy....

the graphics on the PSP are pretty awsome. o_o
^---thats a good thing.

Hah, that's not as bad as the Alienware Laptop's battery power. It's ony about 1-2 hours if its not plugged in and you're fragging the crap out fo things in UT2004, Halo, Battlefield 1942, etc. Wow, only 6 hours of battery life? That's bad... I wonder if they use a big hulking nine volt battery that takes eleven billion hours to recharge, thats definitely a major setback along with the PRICE. The PSP's starting price matches that of the XB when it first came out! All I have to say is, only a lunatic with way too much money and time on his hands would buy it if he had an immediate choice between them and only knew a few basic specs. I also bet the PSP's pretty heavy and you ahve to support it on your lap or something, which can really hurt your neck or be uncomfortable while playing. The DS on the other hand would be slightly heavier than the GBA or maybe twice as much, which isn't all that bad anyway.

I'd buy the DS for sure, no exception. At this rate, it's gonna' OWN.

Out.

First thing about PSP...

Lets look at other somny products. The Playstation 2. How many of you who have it have experienced a disk problem within the first six monthes, or ever? And its just sitting on the floor. Imagine what would happen to the laser in a bumpy car.

Secondly, Nintendo has been portable since 89, so i trust them more.

Thirdly, loading time. Remember how long it takes a regular console to load? Yeah, all that time, in a little itty bitty box.

I'm getting DS, probly for it's Pictochat(which will do wonders during tests.), but its also a good, steady console. If you go to gamespot.com, you can see some videos of the DS in motion from E3.

Oh, and last but not least, PSP is just a GBA with some fancy graphics. I mean, I can play movies and music on my GBA-SP(with a flashcart, of course), so it's no fancy thing to have multimedia all in one.

Edit- PSP has ten hours while playing music, 4 at games, and 2 at movies(or 2 at games and 4 at movies, forot which one). DS will have !16! and thats with both backlights on. PSP will suk a lot of battery power from the drive spinning.

i dont think playing movies on a screen as tiny as that would come out very good....

its got alot of buttons. im not sure if thats cool or not >_> they should make like a....metallic red...or a metallic blue o_o i used to have an ice blue gameboy pocket...and even when my bro gave me his gameboy color i stilled used the pocket caused it looked cooler >_>

will the PSP beable to play PS1 games o_o;;;

No, it won't play PS1 games. The PSP isn't big enough to fit a PS1 game in it, anyway. The PSP disks will be small... perhaps similar to the size of the cube's discs.

It's far too early to say anything about the PSP, although chances are... the loading time will be bad, as the specs show. That's a huge let down. But perhaps graphical power and visual appearance will bring the portable system to new heights. Who knows?

This probably deserves a seperate topic, but I seem to be unable to start a new thread. MODs only, I guess?

The PSP shipped on 12/12, and so far, the reviews have been outstanding. I'm very concerned about the screen, of course... reviews state it's hard to scratch, but it attracts fingerprints and smudge marks easily.

The disks, however, are very well protected. They come in a plastic case, similar to the ones the prototype blU-raY disks came in, and have a small, recessed opening on the bottom through which the laser reads the disk.

The optical disk drive, as well, is said to be very durable. They have experienced no problems as of yet, and there seems to be no heating problems.

As we all know, however, the PSP is dead sexy. In the CG shot up there, it might seem a bit plain, but from other angles it is absolutely drop-dead gorgeous. Much more so than the DS, I believe, even though the DS has definitely come a long way since it's initial showing.

Game selection seems a bit scant at launch, but there seem to be a lot more appealing titles releasing next year (IE: FFVII: Crisis Core, Coded Arms, NFSPU: Rivals, Untitled MMORPG by Sony). And, with PSP launching in America sometime this Spring, we should have a much better launch election than the Japanese.

And Tails, no worries. The PSP retailed for around $185 in Japan, and the price is expected to drop to $150 in America.

As for movies and music... Sony hasn't commented on UMDs being used for either, lately, but it seems both will also be playable form the memory stick, leaving you free to convert any CDs or Movies you already own onto them.

I will keep you guys updated as more info arises, and feel free to ask me any questions regarding PSP. ;D

Well, SE has issues...Ever since the annouced release of Advent Children (FFVII sequel/movie), FFVII spinoffs have been raging...for the PSP, cell phones, and even a Vincent/Cait Sith FPS on the PS2???!!! WTF! SE really has a lot of explaining to do, they are so greedy and overusing.
PSP batt. life and price still pisses me off. Like I said before also, DS>PSP in games (thats what matters, not tech.)

I have to agree with you on the fact that the DS has some good first party games lined up, but the rest appear pretty lackluster, or gimicky. Honestly, I don't see a touchscreen making an impact on the future of all games.... and how are they gonna upgrade the DS to the next generation? Give it a new way to control games? Anyway.... I must say that I, too, am more impressed with the DS line up so far... but Sony is being very tight-lipped about titles being launched for the PSP, especially the US launch titles. Perhaps by launch, and after you've gotten your hand on the thing, your opinion will change, Zohar. ^_^

I would trust Sony with their judgements, but consider the fact that Sony has no past experience in the handheld gaming industry. I mean, for example, Suidoken IV is coming out Janurary 11th. All the information of the title has been under wraps. I am, of course getting it ASAP. Why? I trust them, for #3 on the series (and 1/2 for that matter for SNES) was a great RPG! It is a matter of trust. Nintendo has a boatload of experience and has dominated the handhelds for decades. The touchscreen is a gimmick, but it is not the core of the console. The games will be controlled with the regular buttons of course...the touchscreen will be used for maps, statistics, and menu screens. So it is a convienence thing. Imagine: You are playing Xenosaga I on the DS, and the menu screen can always be accessed through the higher screen! Its amazing! PSP does look a lot cooler though, it is uber sexy.

I also think that the DS is better, not because of its features, but its software lineup. Nintendo is the veteran of gaming, console and handheld alike. Software developers know this, and so they choose to sign on with Nintendo, which is the better decision, it seems. But why do you 2 keep talking about how each one looks? What they look like doesnt matter, I'm sure 3rd parties are already designing skins and/or protective covers for these that will alter the look. I'll admit, I do like the look of the PSP, but more importantly, I like how things with the DS are going right now, especially with all the advancements Nintendo is making to beat the PSP outta the market of handheld gaming for the 21st century.

Yeah I think the DS is still better, because of all the old GBA games you can play on it. Is there any good games coming out for the PSP? Well I think two screens is better than one screen because you don't have to pull up a map or another screen in a game. Also I don't see how PSP can possibly beat out DS when DS came out right in time for christmas! Well I still think DS is better. Also, is there really a need for more consoles? Maybe all of them will go handheld since PSP has proven to have some better features than the PS2.
