No, I don't know. But I think this line was written by Dave. For the simple reason that the way Whit sings it, it actually makes no sense. How can someone "hear" that no one's listening? And he doesn't say "here" but clearly "hears". If you listen to Dave's version "The more you see" on the Nocturnal Records site, he sings "but HERE is no one listening". |

I don't find that odd? I say that I am what I am. Reminds me of a Neil Diamond song btw. When I was a kid, my sister used to play a record of him, and there was this song called "I am... I said". I loved it and asked her what "I am I said" meant. She reflected for a moment and said: "Ich bin, ich sagte. Actually it means nothing." But when she translated the lyrics for me, I thought it made a lot of sense. |

somehow I like this line better: "somewhere the song bird sings and hears theres no one listening" than the one Dave is singing. I can image how the bird is singing his/her song and realizes that there is no one listening at all. it kinda gives me a sad feeling... I mean "hey why the hell am I singing this anyway? fuck it I'm gonna quit!" I'm sure we can all relate to this (or at least I can)... "Why am I doing this... no one cares about it anyway". just my 2 cents... |

yes, the song was originally called "Alien". and it's written by Dave, but I'm sure Whit may have put some of his own words in it. Same goes for Milkman's Son btw. |

I think you're right, if you listen to some of his solo record you can find some similarities in the writing. Dave is the most poetic and romantic writer of the band his words really touch the soul of the people and you can always feel a little sadness in listening to.

'Would You Like To Be There' is a Dave song. It is about Aliens and also about Dave getting on a bus to LA, and pursuing his dream int music [and it coming true]. Whit told me; "dave is the biggest alien theorist you'll ever meet"... Very cool if you ask me. I also think the songs completely written by Dave I.E Candle Song, Busy Bee, WYLTBT, Milkmans...most of them do have lines here or there changed around by Whit or Klaus. If you read the writing credits in the Busy Bee Single, it states; Whit Crane/Dave Fortman. Milkmans Son has 2 solo's right? I'm sure Klaus wrote one of those...and Whit has his own interpretation of the meaning of that song, so I'm sure he messed around with the lyrics a little. Bottom line...Dave was a HUGE player in UKJ. |
