Our club just purchest a tucker 2000 year 2000 with steal tracks. It was a wide track machine but we cut the tracks down to normal size. Replaced the journel sleeves and rebuilt all of the valve bodys because of them leaking. We went through everything top to bottom but when we turn the machine the tracks hit each other. We have tried to make adjustments but one side always seems to hit . Looking for any help please. |

I am sure that there are some here that are very knowledgeable about Tuckers but this is a slow time of year here. If, it is like most motor vehicles and you have one tie rod end turned out to far and the other one turned in to far it will turn sharper in one direction and less sharp in the other. You could try driving in a straight line and with the cat going straight come to a stop, don't pay any attention to the orientation of the steering wheel, just stop and turn the cat off, go underneath and where your tie rods attach to the pitman arm, for lack of the proper terminolgy, unbolt both rod ends from the arm, with the rod ends unhooked hop back into the cat fire it up and gently turn your steering wheel from lock to lock and when you feel you have it centered shut the cat off and go back below and see how your rod ends line up with your steering-pitman arm, if they fall right back in I would guess that the adjustment is correct, if not you will need to make adjustments at your tie rod ends until they go back easily into your steering-pitman arm. Another place to look is to see if there is a steering stop that is damaged or missing, I don't know if these even use stops, you will have to look. |

There is a steering alingment adjustment in the manual as well as in another post in the general section. The tracks should not touch at full steering lock. They will be close but they should not touch. Make sure the front and rear are centered to the chassis. You will need to disconnect the steering and tie rod ends. Once the front and rear are tracking straight you can adjust the rods to hook them back up. Make sure your steering cylinder is in the center of the stroke and re hook up. You may need to make a bit of an adjustment here and there but that should get you where you need to be. Before doing any adjusting, take a look at things and see where everything is at. Rods should be equal and if the steering cylinder has been replaced you should make sure it had the right blocking put in the cylinder because the long and standard tracks were different and quite possibly the long wide vs. the long std. The door data plate should say this in the column under steering cylinder or ram what blocking should be in. |
