Hello My snowmobiling club just got a 2001 BR275 Cummings Snow Cat 14’ wide w/tiller. Sometimes the tiller won’t work at all on a trip out. Sometimes it will work great the whole night, just hard to get it started the first time (not sure what get it going). Here is a few things we always check- The tiller kill switch is up Tried different RPM of the tiller Always have the motor and fluid warmed up We have tried moving forward, dropping the tiller in the same motion, no luck. The auto float light will come on even if the tiller isn’t spinning The direction light won’t come on when it’s not spinning When it’s not working, it won’t work in rev either It’s like it’s dead for some reason, like a failsafe, or something not sensing, or something is bad that won’t allow it to kick in. All motion of the tiller, up down, pitch is fine too. It just won’t spin??? Doubt that any of this is related- The Hydrostatic Temperature switch never shows anything when I flip it The auto center box on the tiller it’s self was replaced by Prinoth this fall. Also we need to replace the side lights bulbs on the cat, under the cab. Any thoughts are appreciated. |

Both the Cummins and Cat powered BR’s that I’ve driven were fairly new and well maintained so they were very reliable and I have no experience of such a fault. My best guess is that you have an electrical problem. Either a faulty switch or a poor earth or a loose connection or a damaged wire somewhere. Or if there is a relay in the circuit maybe that will be the cause. On PB’s I’ve lost tiller drive or track drive at various times because of these issues. I’d start with the switch. Does it function? If the switch is faulty can you bypass it? What about the door switches? Do they stop the tiller as well as the tracks? I can’t remember whether they do or not. As you're having no trouble with track drive I'm inclined to discount this. Is the connection to the tiller pump firm and is it clean and dry? If the switch is OK can you bypass the wiring direct to the tiller pump? I’ve had poor connections at a drive pump (simply a loose connection) cause erratic driving behaviour. I’ve had complete loss of drive due to a poorly soldered joint in the Moog controller on a track drive pump. Someone with more experience of BR’s may have other ideas and even point you straight at the likely cause but failing that I think that you have a puzzle that you have to work out by following your wiring to find the fault. Good luck!

It ended up being a 12 volt relay under the consul that was lose. Pushed it back in and now it seems fine. |

Glad to hear that you found the problem. I hope you have plenty of snow to play with. I enjoyed my time in MP Pluses and 275 and I hope it works out well for you.
