A month or two ago, a buddy of mine bought a 54" drag which he planned on pulling with his 2012 Ski Doo Renegade 550. Being a fan cooled engine, I thought it might be a bit too much to ask of his Ski Doo. But yesterday, the two of us went out grooming and I was quite impressed both with how well his Renegade pulled the drag and with the job it was doing. He had brought the drag and his sled to me a couple weeks ago to install an actuator lift mechanism on it and that worked great too. Here's a link to a vid of him grooming. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rky2KHa5DXg |

Nice video I am surprised the renegade with the rotax550 fan pulled that so well I would think that a 550 fan would be underpowered because I am running 5 to 6 grand pulling a small wooden drag with a rotax 670. Also in an earlier topic you said your friend also got the new tundra. How does that work. Are they like the older ones that only go about 50mph Edited by sno-cat, Feb 4 2013, 07:31 PM.

I'm not sure what RPM he was running at but he was running between 8-12 mph most of the time and said it felt like the engine and clutches were working easily. I felt the primary belt sheave after about 10 miles of grooming and it was warm but not really any warmer one would expect under normal riding conditions. I think his Tundra is either a 2008 or a 2009........it still has the single cylinder engine. It can really pull with that typical single banger low end torque. However it is not an electric start model so does not have a battery to operate the actuator. I'm not sure how fast his Tundra is but I can't see how it could run any faster than 50 mph or so. |

Kudos to the sled for being able to take the drag. I would think a 550 would have no issues pulling it. My SWT has the same 550.. I would worry about the belt however. It does appear to do a good job on that day, but that snow is dry & sweet. Let me know how it does in 6" of fresh wet or an unestablished trail. I think that might over tax the system. I know I can get stuck in 4" of sticky without trying too hard. |
