You crack me up. You don't want cheap, but you went cheap buying a tractor and in your picture you are making things work with a SUV? I'm just sayin.

These guys are definitely not from the northeast e2spear!!! I'm on you side lol!!! We bought a 50 hp tractor that we plan on putting tracks on and pulling a 7 foot drag.we are buying the mattracks which are 30,000. The tractor was 30,000 .thats 60,000 !!! Go buy a new groomer for that.lol!!!! And also try to brush hog with it.and also the cat parts will break a club.although if you go over 50 hp beware price goes up drastically. Just saying

From what I've heard, the tractor/tread option is fairly common here too. Apparently, the clubs lease the tractor from a dealer for the winter. They get a new tractor to use for the season, and no storage, repair, etc. for the summer. The dealer gets back a tractor with fairly low hrs. and usually very light usage.

I was told this by my brother, who's got lots of snowmobile club contacts. I can't speak for the accuracy.

As to proper usage of a farm tractor? Well, I use a ZTR Dixon lawnmower to haul my skinny ass up the hill for skiing. So feel free to "misuse" a tractor if you like, with my blessings.

The only track kit worth considering for a tractor is the Soucey. But be aware that if you are grooming in swamps or any soft terrain the PSI is still quite high because of the added weight. Also, don't expect it to climb hills like a "chained" tractor. Personally i would buy a Tucker befor going this route if any of the above situations apply to you.

A Tucker would be great. Find me more time to use it instead of just 2 months and that would be awesome. Can stomach spending that kind of $$ on a vehicle that only gets used that short of time. A tractor we could start using in Sept and go right through to March.

As far as the other comments about being cheap you can kiss my azz. Our volunteer club is not highly funded like other places. This money is raised by the club. The tracked suvs we have (4 ) have worked great. Just hoping to move up to the next level.

All valid opinions excepted.

Soucy track kits looked very interesting - a few years back someone told me the lower HP units were around 10k (I think it was Yannick on this board, not sure). I have a tractor now that the ST400 would be perfect on. Not sure on what the final PSI would be, and I suspect prices are much higher now (more well known, and oil and steel prices are higher, so I'm assuming rubber, etc... as well).

For the $ your talking though you can get an older PB and still have $ for maintenance of the machine. You are right though, it IS nice to have year round use (why I have a tracked ATV....)

Winterwoods. Hmmmm, I have spent many of hours grooming in Wyoming (Togwotee area, Southeast Wyoming as well as the Black Hills of SD) Everything from long wide tracks to standard terra tracks. Oh, don't forget MN, WI and MI. Of course MN is home base and the 20+ years of grooming for our club I think makes some of my info justified and the previous job allowed me the ability to expierence clubs with every sort of equipment and the good and bads that go along with it.

Don't be hatting someone you would like to be.

Soucey tracks and a tractor is the way I would go. I think our club could get more use out of one. Right now we own a tucker and rent a tractor for fall trail maintenance. As for midwest sno cat, Don't let him get to you. I don't think he's ever been out of Minnesota. :tease: . He sure knows what, when, why, where and, how. Just ask something! :myopinon:
