Will report on conditions this winter from Alberta. We have a few areas dusted with snow already. :wtf: Way to early. Still need to go hunting. We need cold before we need snow to firm up the muskeg and freeze up the lakes.

May as well put up a update here. This year has been a bonus year for snow levels. Best since 1974. Lots of warm-cold cycles which caused some icy conditions for the trails. We have our new Arrowhead drag and the Scandic SWT pulls it like a dream. We groom at least twice a week and have a good base still. If weather holds we will be grooming into April easy.
Heres a couple pics of some of our work

Here it is the end of March and our snow hasn`t even began to melt. Groomed last weekend and will be grooming this week also. Spring will be coming fast whenever it gets here.

Anybody going anywhere?
We are twiddling our thumbs in wait mode - dry as a bone.
The Ski Here blog has them skiing on natural on the Moraine Lake loop.

Decent snow event in progress here, pretty breezy too.
Going to go out this afternoon with the rollers and try and tie some of it down.

Game on here!
Two of us went out yesterday and rolled and machine packed. (Skandic,Sherpa still in the shop we were on the Alpines-ughh!)
The trails in the bush had 20-25 cm on them we estimated, blown off pretty well in the open.
Great start for us.
Had trouble on a lot of the hills even after machine packing as we would spin out right down to the ground/ice.
Hopefully it set up a bit overnight and I can get up some more of the hills with a roller as I am going out again this a.m.
Going to take some time and work to get this stuff firmed up at these temps, -20*C. Have to keep at it, already been asked twice "when are you going to set some track?"
A couple of folks had already been out skiing ahead of us. When we got back there were 30 or so Jackrabbitts doing their thing.

Packed 10km again today.
Set a track on it.
Looks great.
Maybe a couple of hundred metres have grass showing through. Won't be starting out on rock skis.

Got the south section of our trails packed down this morning.
Some of these hills are pretty skinny, guess the wind got at them.
-20*C with the windchill its -30*C
Was going to ski this aft but I think I have had enough for one day.

I got out and skied the 10km I had set.
Pretty nice, even had a good pole plant on 98% of it.
Everybody I met was amazed at how good of track we had. Mind you it was the hard core guys out there today at these temps, They'll ski on anything this time of year.
No problem with kick but not much glide, lol.
Going to warm up this week, best keep the machines in the shed and live with what we got........
The ski teams are back in town this week so things will get chewed up bigtime so we'll see how that goes.

Cursed Chinook made a bit of dent in our meager snowpack yesterday.
Skiing has been fine up until now.....

No snow for the week, none in the forecast.
Warm day coming tomorrow...big wind yesterday put a lot of debris on the trails.
Things are deteriorating.
Did one light Ginzu pass over the skating lane a few days ago to smooth the downhills out.
Track is getting skied out, not sure if I have enough snow to cut a new one...decisions, decisions....

Skied every day this week, that felt good.

Took a sled and light drag out to park at our biathlon shed today. It barely scratched the surface.
After Sunday's rain, subsequent freezing's, things are pretty well bulletproof out there.
Bit of snow in the forecast, maybe we get skiing again. Didn't see a soul on the trails today.

Rolled the skate lane for the couple cms we got last night.
Grabbed one of the athletes out skiing to demo some grooming experiments I did on the flats.... Rolled, Ginzued and the bigger drag with the teeth lifted up. (not enough snow to do a grind).
Roller won she said.

Left the tracks alone.

Got out for a ski (classic) and it was surprisingly good...and maybe my expectations aren't that high.
Debris was covered up and a person could at least wax for some grip with the fresh snow.

Two of us spent yesterday clearing a couple dozen dead trees that blew over in the latest blow, that was a bit of a drag.
Rolled the few cms fresh and set a new track.
Its good in the trees, we aren't gaining a lot of ground in the open areas but we are skiing.

Did a light grind with the Ginzu yesterday.
The skating lanes are getting real icy, hills were tough to negotiate - up and down.
Did a decent job considering the meager base and warm temps we have had.
Track is bullet proof - tough to wax for.
