Overnight we received a 2 to 4 inch dusting of low moisture snow and our temps dropped like a rock. We received rain on Sunday and our temps since last week had floated around the 30 to 35 range of TO WARM. :'( Today’s high was about 14. My cohort was suppose to get out early and drag things but he had problems with the electrical connection for the drag actuator, so he reverted to the roller and got a very late start. The old wide-track needs a new plug-in but I seem to make it work fine. With just a dusting of light snow over the hard rain soaked base. The drag scratching the surface and mixing in the new snow while flattening out the trail would have been ideal tool to use. Oh well. Photo descriptions follow.

Top one is what it looked like after he had rolled it twice. You can see the old tracks? Note how bowl shaped the trail has become during the warm weather.
This was what the new tracks looked like. The dark spots in the bottom of the tracks are chunks of old snow.
Overall things didn’t look all that bad. We skied them just before dark and flew! Wow we had good grip and glide.

Here is one of the bridges we installed this fall. Yes it has a curve in it. Hard to believe its 8ft wide!
This is looking down at the creek from the same spot.. It might be 4ft to the water from the snow.

Hope you enjoy them.

If anyone cares, Here is a photo of the bridge when we completed it this fall. Our UTV is parked at about the same position, as my sled was when I took the above photo. Difference was that I stood on the sled and took the photo. Look the same?? LOL

Hey Arly,

I have a similar sized bridge on our trails. After a couple of years holding my breathe each time I went across, we decided to add bumper rails on the sides. We took a 6x6 beam and ran rebar through to create a bumper if we hit it at low speeds. It saved me once last year so it's been worth it. If I hit it at high speed it might not do the job, so I'm not going to ever zoom across.

The bumpers also give our skiers a bit more confidence. We don't have the amazing snow like you in the UP, but as the season goes on the base does build up to the bumper, so we might go to higher rails at some point.

I don't believe we can use the rail option since our roller hangs over the sides, it having a corner makes it harder yet. Seems like I did the math a while ago and it was to close to be practical. We've gone from 5ft 6in bridges to 8ft, so you'd think we could be able to stay on them! ^o)

Gee,, we had a wonderful day to be out grooming trails in. It had been COLD breezy, snowing and just staying above zero, (yes it can snow plenty here in cool temps) But today the temps moderated and it snowed just a bit. Conditions made for some nice pics and I hope I caught the essence of the trails with some fresh snow. Sun even came out a little. A rare site on the shores of our little pond. Hope you enjoy them.

Looks nice, wish I was skiing instead of grooming, just headed out after dinner. Won't be done till close to eleven if all goes well. Really nice looking trail.
