Like everyone else in the Midwest, we warmed and the snow machine shut down, so no grooming has occurred here (least our trails) since mid last week. Over the weekend we took these photos while back country skiing which is our favorite type (no sissys!), plus some while skiing to and from those trails, we did a few K that we groom. We thought the trails were holding up fine. Looks like the winds are switching to the NW tonight and we'll get a dusting of that white lovely stuff we live for.. Not sure if I've even mentioned this before for, but we moved to the UP nearly 15 years ago to do more XCing. THEN lake effect shuts down!

I love all types of skiing... and I must say that some of the most absolutely magical times on skis for me have been skate-skiing in the backcountry. A nice icy crust you can walk on, with 1" of fresh powder or so, especially with a good snow pack (5' or so to cover all the hobble bush, etc...) and WOW is about all that can be said unless you've experienced it. Oh, and don't catch a tip on a tree Back on topic... Nice images, as always! |

agreed-march crust (sissy ) skiing trumps all others-just flyin thru the trees anywhere your heart desires. A good woodie ski in the deep forest is fun too.
