Polaris has gotten back with us and said (there emails have a scary disclaimer that states we can't forward it) that they know that they have a problem with their 2009-10 IQ widetracks and their working on a kit for them that includes front coupler blocks and other parts to correct this. They also said these won't be ready until 2011 which is the down side. I'll get in touch with them and see if we can't get something for our saggy sled for the time being. |

I'm really hoping that Polaris fixes this problem for you. My favorite snowmobile dealer carries Yamaha and Polaris. When I get tired of my VK Pro, I would like to have another good option like this Polaris widetrack with all the bugs worked out. |

Gee we sure hope our saggy suspension gets fixed too! hehe Least they know there's a problem and working on some kind of correction. In our last email from them, they suggested adding more tension to the rear main springs than what the factory setup allowed. This was something we had already considered doing but for all the work of building the needed parts was. We hoped Polaris had some stiffer springs for it. I should add that we've also noted that rear tow bar/bumper is also under built. I had one of our sleds crap out on us and while being towed to a trail head, I could see the IQ's pintle hitch flexing up and down waaaaaaay to much. I've since added some reinforcement to the rear of the tunnel which made it much stiffer. Whatever the case, this problem is much easier for characters like us to repair, than the waterbed suspension. Below is a photo of the "new and improved" tow hitch mounting. The flat black angle mounted under the hitch is what we added. Edited by arly, Jan 10 2010, 10:16 PM.

On Friday afternoon I received a call from a Bill Miller at Polaris industries. I believe he said he was the head mechanical engineer (ME) of the snow sport division. He apologized for not get back with us sooner and he'd been off work with the flu and gee he didn't sound all that good while chatting with me either. None the less, we talked for more than 1/2 an hour and I had great time of it. He said that about 1/3 of these sleds go to people who use the IQ Wide-tracks as tractors, and last spring they started to hear that it's suspension has a problem for those users. They had just made an experimental front limiter strap that was shorter than its original one and they were developing another strap for its rear, which would reduce the "floating" that our sled does. He also had a few more adjustment points we should do to it. Gee this conversation was in stark contrast with the chat I had with the engineer who called us from Yamaha a couple of years ago to ask about our sled overheating but that's another story. He also asked about what implements we're pulling, how much cooling we require. I said "do us a favor, and remove the heat exchanger and increase the radiator size" He didn't realize how much a problem the slush was creating for us groomers and they'd look at removing the tunnel exchanger all together, or as a kit. He asked for implement photos to be sent him, so I'm compiling a few right now, some with tunnel exchanger snow stuck on them. Gee I finally found a use for all those silly photos we've archived! They hoped to send us a suspension update kit by sometime next week. Gee,,, its sure refreshing to chat with a manufacture who seems to care. More Later. Edited by arly, Jan 16 2010, 03:34 PM.
