First Ice chopping with the Grizzly! Well, is spring here? We had mid 40s for a week or so, on and off, some snow tossed in and a high March sun-result- Some VERY hard pack base, some solid ice. Temps finally cooled down yesterday, so I decided to head out with the Ginzu to chop it up as much as I could. Of course, on solid ice, it scratches it and hitting it over and over will at least make something to ski on. The Grizz has an unstudded track, so I wanted to test how it would pull up the hills with teeth down on the groomer. Pretty impressed, I'd say. I predicted we would have to stud the tracks for this, but after grooming yesterday, I think we can leave the tracks stock. I did spin on one hill, a south faceing slope that was mostly solid ice, but the tracks found a grip and I climbed up. I ran pretty slow speeds considering I was cutting heavily. The Grizz didn't overheat at all (which was a good test) and after a couple hours I had at least some of the trail groomed up. Would have liked to tried the G2, which is wider, but we still can't keep the tooth bar from tripping-even after doing everything Tidd Tech told us to. I'm ready to just bolt the tooth bar down so it can't pivot and take my chances on hitting anything solid. The way the tooth bar swings, it actually cuts DEEPER when it trips-I just don't get this design. |

Great info here thanks alot. Question for you - did you go for the Tatou 4s Tracks or the Tatou original winter only tracks with the double wheel utility set-up and why? I have a VK Pro with 84" Ginzu but am considering changing to ATV set-up(for all the basic reasons 4season machine etc). thanks |

Is the grizzly you are using have the electric power steering? Also, what was the cost for the Tatou 4s tracks? Looking into a unit like this for some of our snowmobie trails. |

The Tatou tracks are not the winter only ones, they are the 3s and 4s I beleive (I'd have to look again). They have worked well and no traction problems at all. They actually leave less track marks behind the machine than the SWT for the groomer to wash out. The 700 Grizzly does have the electric power steering and I'd highly recommend it. With the tracks on front-it takes more effort to steer. The faster you go, the less power steering kicks in from my understanding. Of course, we're always running it slow. Our season is done-50s and 60s most of this week, so we'll pull the tracks and put wheels on for our summer work. Overall, for this winter, I am extreamly happy with the performance of the tracks ($3200) and the Grizzly 700. We'll still use the SWT from time to time when needed (grooming with two machines) but the grizzly does everything better IMO. Best wishes to all you groomers out there! As always, this forum has a ton of great ideas! |

Has anyone tried using a Polaris Sportsman with tracks for grooming. A lot good information here on the Grizzly. Was just wondering on the Polaris. |

The 850XP with the power steering option looks like it could handle the job. |

![]() Club went with the grizzly and the Tatou 4s tracks for this year. The unit works great with no problems at all, will pull a full load of snow and keep going. I know this is the cross country section( we use this set up for snowmobile trails). But I used the information you guys gave me to make the decesion to buy this for the club. Had an older Bombi, sold it and use the money to get this. Keep up with the reports on these, going to get a grizzly on tracks for myself. Using A yamaha 1997 VK 540 right now, will be for sale at the end of the season. Any one interested in the VK 540 let me know |

I'm so glad I bought my 700 Yamaha Grizzly too. The forest green color is awesome. When I get the Ginzu next year I think I'll stick with the regular hitch versus the gooseneck. All that leverage kind of spooks me. I know Saratoga Biathlon has two ATV's with tracks. They have been using these for a least 4 years, so they have have had lots of use. Pulling a 6" Tidd TT they broke the back axle assembly from putting to much stress on it and this was just with a Tidd TT. They welded the break and made a heavy duty hitch as well. No problems since. Like you I had to make runs at hills with my SWT. I call the Grizzly a mini snowcat because it will climb up anything with a groomer behind it. |

Doug-I think the gooseneck system really works well and you are still putting the same wt on the hitch. Depending on the extension, I don't know that you'd be levering it too much....long extension, yep, you'd add leverage, but we have a long one and no problems. It could be the gooseneck does absorb some stress? It's odd that a 6'TT would break what they have- a G2 or Ginzu is heavier-that said, with teeth down on a TT, it can be a huge pull compared to the teeth on the G2 or Ginzu. |

Good points. I remember you saying the Tidd TT was harder to pull with the teeth down than Ginzu or G2. I just looked at the Gooseneck on YTS's site and it looks pretty good. A little pricey at $300, but it makes grooming easier for those who use it like you mentioned. |

air 19, It's the standard hitch that came with the Grizzly with a 1 7/8" ball. We are going to put on the receiver type hitch that yamaha sells for about $85. It's more stout and makes switching ball sizes quicker. I don't have any pictures of it. I'll try to post some soon.

Just purchased an 07' Grizzly 700. Have been trying different groomers, ie: yts compaction drag, yts roller(hits the tracks on sharp turns), trying the short Ginzu tonight on manmade snow. The compaction drag grooming has been almost without incident. Only one stall on a hil but it was due to a reverse switch issue. Otherwise pulls great with great comb over the hills. Still tossing around the Gooseneck vs. Pintle option. THe tracks are Camoplast Traxion+ which they stress need to be used in 4wd. Can the Tatou 4's be used in 2wd? There are warnings all over the place on mine 4wd only. The power steering is fantastic till you punch the diff lock, then its like steering a tank. Just need to plan a little for the corners. Added a windshield and its a Yamaha model that covers the hands too(not pictured). I think I need to add weight to the front end, anyone do this yet? Battery in the box on the back and I use a winch switch to control the actuator. only other experience on the Scandics and this is far better.

Hey Spinbad- Nice looking Grizz-same color as ours. We DO use some wt on the front-I toss in about 30-40# of flat wts inside our front box on the rack. I'd be tempted to put the battery on the drags instead of the ATV-the wt won't hurt the groomers and you don't have as much wt on the back of the Grizz. You'd like the gooseneck-it's very handy to do a Crazy Ivan turn right in the middle of the trail or on a hill. You can't do that with a pindle. I don't know how well non- 4X4 would work with tracks-you can do it (I did by accident) but that's a lot of rubber to push, plus it won't turn as well. |
