I finally updated the pictures of my homemade version of the Tidd Tech Trail Tenderizer. Here's a link:

That is an unbelievably good looking unit. I see small bits of "Tidd" (upper frame mostly), but so much of it is your design / build I think you are short changing yourself by calling it a 'Homemade version of the Tidd Tech Trail Tenderizer'.

I noticed it looks like some of the knives are bent - rocks? Also - if you don't mind me asking - did you weld up the knives (or at least supports) on to the rod, or purchase it? Looks like a lot of work....

VERY NICE JOB!

I like what Todd has done for the "visual depth adjusting rod." for lack of a better name. I wish I new EXACTLY how deep the teeth were cutting when I'm grooming. You go up a hill and change the depth, then re-set it on the flats and change it and change it..... etc. Instead of a up-down switch, I wish there were a dial switch where you could set it at let's say " .25" deep" and it would go there, or "3/8" deep" and it would be there....I'm sure it can be done, but it's beyond my electric-switching capacity.

On another note- I bought a pendent switch box on ebay and the county electrician couldn't make it work for our Ginzu-you know, with a battery pack and remote switch. The homemade job I saw at Lapham Peak was a wood box with some up down switches on it and a cable to the battery box and to the electric articulators. Not pretty, but functional.

The basic design is like the Trail Tenderizer, so that's the easiest way to describe it. I enjoy designing new components and modifying existing components so they work better or easier.

Most of the bent teeth are on the edges where they catch stumps. The teeth were shaped a little too much like an "L" so they would dig in too much too fast. I've straighten them a little bit so the points contact the snow first and they now cut better and easier.

I welding everything - and the tubes the teeth are mounted on were a major pain-in-the-butt to make! And of course the tubes warped when I was welding them, so I had to heat them up and straighten them - at least enough so they would rotate freely.

I've been thinking about some sort of dial switches, but haven't found anything that would work.
