Bombardier drag retrofitted for XC grooming

I've finally gotten around to taking a few images of my groomer in action. It is a Bombardier snowmobile trail groomer (made to be pulled by an Alpine I suspect) that I purchased from TLC_SkiDoo at a very reasonable price. I've since removed the original packing pan (floated between the then four skis in back) and rear skis, replacing the rear skis with a packer bar made out of treated 2x4's (PVC pipe didn't work so well... especially after I smacked a stump...). An 80" piece of snowcomb from YTS is screwed to the packer bar. Originally I had plastic that went from the packer bar up to "catch" snow, but I found it wasn't really needed with the snow-curler blade in front.

I also added to the packer bar a "hitch" of sorts to attach my track pan (a cobbed together one from discarded bits from a ski center. The shoes are actually different sizes, but you don't really notice it skiing).

On flat trails (meaning level, hills are OK) it works great, including renovating the snow. It also levels well, at least where the blade/teeth are. The downside is for narrower trails where there is not quite enough snow and the trail is "U" shaped - the packer bar ends up being held up by the sides of the trail, and the renovated snow does not get combed. I've thought recently about hinging the ends and adding springs to keep it flat most of the time, but since I'm purchasing another unit I'll likely move this one on.

In case you're wondering why two handles with notches, each side is raised / lowered (relatively) independently - so you can level a trail side to side with it if needed. I've long thought narrowing it down a little, and adding an actuator (or two...) would make a poor mans blade for leveling trails.
