This spring our club we’ll likely be ordering a 2010 Polaris WIDETRAK IQ utility sled. If anyone here is using the 2009 version we’d love to hear their impressions of it. And that’s anything good or bad. Thanks |

We had one at ABR for the last two weeks of the season last spring. Not sure if it was a prototype or early production unit but it impressed us quite favorably. The details; cooling system, excellent. In late season grooming[mostly hard to ice] there were no overheating problems, and the really nice thing is the standard instrument panel[digital] lets you monitor coolant temp constantly. Steering; good to very good considering the stock skis and runners. You most likely will find no need to change them. Driveline; fuel injected engine-easy starting, plenty of power. Transmission; shifts better than a VK Pro but there was some play in the lever/linkage. Rear suspension; even at max preload the rear springs were too soft, optional stiffer ones should be available and I would recommend them. Battery convieneantly located under the seat-easy access. Should be a good choice. Rick |

We got this report from a user who didn't wish to be revealed but contained much good information concerning this sled. We have over 400 miles on our 2009 Polaris IQ. It shifts like a dream, I have driven the Yamahas, several different ski doos, and our last 8 Polaris's, this one shifts the best. The belt never even squeals; we never go out of low range. I have seen others using high range at other venues, but we have never driven any of our machines in anything but low, they are just too heavy. The rear suspension is certainly an issue being too soft. I have sent Polaris 2 emails about it. I am sure that we will get it resolved, but it is not resolved at this time. I am sure that we can get a bigger spring over the back shock, and get some custom blocks on those big springs that are on each side. The 2009 IQ does not steer as well as the 2 strokes have since 2001. One of the reasons is that the rear suspension sags and takes weight off the skis. The other problem is that the back end of the tunnel is a long way from the back of the track. That will not be a problem for us when we pull the Ginsu because of the gooseneck hitch. It may be a problem with a heavy tow behind drag, although I think it will still steer as good as any other brand. Nothing steers like the 2 stroke widetrak LX. The cooling is second to none. Cold weather starting has been great to about -5 F. That is as cold as we have tried. It comes with an engine heater, ours was defective, and I haven't had a chance to get it back to dealer to get the new one installed, as we have been using it almost every day. The machine is extremely comfortable to drive. It has an adjustable back rest and provides great lumbar support. So there is my 20 cents worth. From an anonymous user. A Rhino when fully equipped for grooming purposes will be about $17K and that's nearly twice the cost of most grooming sleds. If it can do more work then its higher cost might be OK but I'm telling others (our club) how to spend their $$$ which makes me pretty conservative. I prefer to let others do the testing. None the less it appears that tracked ATVs are becoming more popular and at this point we'll be going the ATV way for our next purchase. The IQ question was originally asked on January 1st, since then we’re learned much about tracked ATV grooming. Whatever the case, we thought other folks might appreciate the IQ info the fellow had send us.
