Our club is considering the purchase of a utility ATV for trail mowing, moving materials to bridges and other summer trail jobs like that. By utility ATV we of course mean the ones with a box on the rear and we’d also need AWD for our terrain. We already tried a 2wd to mow trails and found it short on pulling power. We’re looking at Rangers because we’ve got a really good Polaris dealer here, but we’re not necessarily stuck on a Ranger purchase. What utility ATVs have other folks used and been happy or disgruntle with??? Next we’re wondering if adding some Mattrack’s tracks M3 to it and use it year around, or least when snow conditions warrant its use. Has anyone tried these 13in wide M3 tracks with 1.75 lugs for snow or pulling a groomer?? Is so please let us know your impressions. If this is done then we’d have to have power steering on the atv. Thanks for the help!! Here is Mattrack’s site http://www.litefootatv.com/html/litefoot_utility_rated.htm Hope everyone is getting some snow! We're getting a heavy dose of snow AND wind here today. Check out the Polaris based "Saratoga Ranger".... I haven't seen one in person yet, but I know a few clubs that post here have tried them. http://saratogaranger.com |

I don't know about putting tracks on one but we use a 2003 Professional Series Ranger with a 500cc carbed motor. This version is limited to 25 mph. It is great for getting people around our trail system without wearing them out walking to remote locations to do trail work. With the 4WD engaged, it handles most all terrain. Also has a differential lock on the rear. We pull a small trailer (4x8) behind it with signs and stakes. Chainsaw, tools, gas, oil, etc are carried in the bed. Works great! I think you can build a Enclosed one with tracks for MUCH less than Saratoga Ranger, but it would need the bigger motor to pull the tracks. Drove a Saratoga Ranger at Salisbury last year, ride was bumpy, and loud. Joel

A Polaris Ranger HD model with tracks would be in the 16K area of price. Sadly that would place the Saratoga Ranger “above the clouds” at its price. |

And another silly ATV question. I see Boss Plows makes a hydraulic, 6' wide for ATV’s that has a "all way" capability as seen here http://tinyurl.com/4gk869 Kind of like what PBs have but more simple in design. Has anyone here used one of these for trail leveling??? Hummmmm Seems like these might work for moving snow to the off camber side and improve ones trails.

Goodday, I have 3 ATV with mattracks, we use them year round, especially for pulling and humide areas. I don't recommend the M3 for summer use, you will use up the rubbers right away. The XT model is OK, and pretty good in snow (of course not as good as the M3's). I also recommend power steering if you can find the model....at the end of the day one can feel it, especially without snow. As for the plow, no problem under 2 feet, more snow you will need to be heavier. |
