for at least the first half of the day. Only got stuck a few times (first time around packing the trail), most of it rolled out VERY nicely. Of course, just before dark I wound up stuck, with a dead battery (winches don't work as well with a dead batter;) ), and the questionable drive belt is now shot. I thought about working on it (I had a spare with me), but decided to use the daylight left to walk back to my barn where the other Alpine was, as even after swapping the belts out I'll need to finish getting unstuck. Nice day though, sunny, high of 10 F or so. Trails set up nice. With luck I'll be able to replace the belt and drive right out of there tomorrow...if not I'll have a come-along with me. Hopefully it will go easily so I'll still have some energy to ski and enjoy the trails! I have about half of them track packed or rolled....perhaps after tomorrow I'll have 90% of what's groomable open...just in time for 40's and rain on Monday. At least it'll make a great base.... One of these years I'll have to upgrade to a newer machine. As much as I love my old Alpines, they certainly are hard-riding smelly old beasts. Day 17 of skiable trails this season! |
