http://tiny.cc/qeEus a buddy sent this, with some cryptic info. He is in Search and Rescue in Washington State, said a groomer slid down a hill a little ways. I think you can see a red cab in the trees in one pic. Will try to get more info.... |

It looks to be a Trucker cat from the pic to me also from the track it left in the snow may be. What part of the State your friend riding in? Not a good day for that driver. It looks like that they will have to bring in a wench cat. To bad mind broke at the moment.
but always can be fix in short order.

Looks like they went for a nice slide. I have to say I enjoy sliding down the hill with fresh snow. When I know the run out is clear of course. The slide that guy went for would have been a little scary. I was worried going into work last Saturday about sliding all over the hill. We were closed for the week so we did not groom. Luckily we got a ton of fresh snow. A couple years ago when our resort did this the hill was almost solid ice. The guy I work with said you would be climbing just fine then one track would lose grip and down to the bottom you would go. |

The cat's a PB200 with a 10' tiller w/tracksetters, cat did two 360's on the way down, sitting know 600' to 700' off the road, blade down. Went to the seen on Sunday gave me chills!!! thinking about the ride. Operator was O.K. and climb out but was in the hospital on Sunday for chest pains. Thought and Best wishes go out to the family, they have been involved in grooming trails in Washington state for many years, 3 generations. There are pic's on snowest forum under washington, stampede groomer rolls down cliff. |

A groomer at Aspen Highlands this winter slid off the narrow cat track on top of Highlands bowl. They said he slid about 900' vertical before a small patch of trees stopped him. Talking with those guys grooming up there is intense. The cat track runs along the top of a ridge about 2000' down either side. You make it wide enough for the cat by cutting the tip of the ridge off. It was not unusual for them to get to the end turn around to come back and a snow storm hits. All you could do was park and wait, because there was no way you would make it back not being able to see. Guess that is one way to get a nap in the middle of your shift. |
