Ian, Any chance "conversion" kits will be available for other tractors? I'm thinking smaller HP just for XC grooming...I've already got the diesel 4wd tractor, and figuring out a tow setup would be very easy. I've admired the Soucy systems, but with my hills I like the idea of grousers (though i'd like to see cross grousers on that as well...slipping sideways off a hill is not fun...done that on ice / snow in a Dozer...going to rescue a PB) Thank you |

'' we '' groom at night most of the time and it s not time to get stuck. in the drifts i like to visualize and think ahead .it avoid to make mistake and it give me the chance to learn a few tricks. j-g !!! |

hope you ll understand. grooming tq 5 here , i have 7-8 bad places with nice drifts.specially this season wind has been more from the south (70% ) than the north .i don t like to unhook the drag and i don t like to shovel !!!! when there s big drifts i go on the lowest side and i try to use the ''bull '' and make the edge of the trail (side ) higher .so that snow will freeze and might help me on the next run if im in a bad situation .put the right side track on the edge and it ll give me more traction . there s places where i do 3 to 5 cuts wide, sometimes going up hills.so when i pack 2-3-4 ' of snow and i must return in those drifts(packed ) i go as fast as possible without letting the rpm go to low ,.don t wait much to down shift .keep rpm high . if i m too low in the gears ,i keep my hand on the handle to lift the drag .play with it ,up and down .so on the way up (maybe psychologic ) there s less weight on the tractor and i gain back your rpm.use my elbow to control the packer . try not to spin the tracks .you break the hard packed snow and maybe hard to find ''traction '' later.if this happen ,i ll put the tracks in between the ''old ones ''.there s always traction there . if drifts are hard packed ,instead of taking the full width of the ''bull '' i ll take 6-7 ' wide.if there s ''room '' between the drifts ,i keep the drag full as possible to fill the space in between the drifts. when grooming in the drifts ,you must groom in a way that your trail must go ''up ward''.thats why i keep the drag full . if i fell off the trail for a few seconds ,i hurry up .put the packer lower and trail will stay '' flat '' instead of making a bump . i v e seen often going thru drifts snow ''knocking '' on the passenger cab a little bit lower than the light . last winter i saw drifts from 3 to 6 ' for about 400 ' .it has been a lot of fun .it has been slow but i ve been thru . we have br 160 and those guys have 14 years experience, i surprised them often .they unhook the drag more often than me . in 8 years of grooming ,got stuck 5-6 times .most of the time because i was in the ''moon '' a bit .like i said ,grooming alone at night ,it s not time to get stuck .better learn fast . sorry for the long post .the only tricks i have nt learned yet .how to post pics here .tried again this morning and can t figure it out. it would be easier for me to explain . j-g !!! |

Hello couchsachraga… your query has prompted me to prepare a (somewhat) brief outline of our “big plan” for selling/supporting the 4-track system. Here it is; For now, the system will only fit New Holland TSA series or CaseIH MXU series tractors. There are a few reasons for this; • These are the only tractors we’ve mounted them on so far. Our experience with the 2-track Sur-Trac is that by focusing on one brand (well, NH & CIH are essentially the same) we can be sure that our system is perfected for select models and will operate “bug-free”. Every tractor is designed differently and stresses are dissipated differently, but we have gotten to know the TSA (MXU) series inside-out over the years and are completely happy with them as groomers. • Due to our drive wheel and bogie configuration sizes it may be difficult to adapt our system to multiple or smaller models. We will certainly be looking at this in the future though. • We could look at different tractor makes/models, but I don’t believe our system will ever be a generic “one size fits all” system. We would need to consider FWD ratios, clearances, various axle types etc. In other words, it “may” be possible to fit our track system to other brands and models but we would need to have the tractor at our shop (or at least be able to access one locally) in order to be sure it fits and works properly. We will not be selling our 4-track system via agricultural tractor dealers. It will be sold exclusively via our current Sur-Trac partners Mike Witzeling of SnowTrack LLC (Michigan and all states westward), and Doug Wilson of Mountain Grooming Equipment (New York and all states east of that). Ebert Welding will handle Canadian sales from our shop in Ontario. We work with the club to select the best tractor model and servicing tractor dealer. To make sure the installation of tracks and any grooming equipment is done correctly we orchestrate their initial installation. The operation of a snowmobile trail groomer goes far beyond knowing how to just drive a tractor and we want to make sure the club/operator knows how to operate and get the most out of their new groomer. Most of you snowmobile trail groomer operators on this forum are very experienced, do a great job, and most importantly have a history with your club. Believe me when I tell you that you guys are the exception, not the rule! Most clubs have a high turnaround of operators. This means there are typically a lot of inexperienced people operating (or should I say, “driving”) groomers. No disrespect intended, but we don’t want to leave the training/after sales support up to an agricultural equipment dealer who may or may not have any grooming experience whatsoever. It has always been our pleasure to maintain long-term contact with clubs so that we may be of ongoing assistance for all things grooming-related, not just the tracks… not just the drags... not just the tractor. We have built our reputation on being “one-stop grooming specialists” for everything including tractor, tracks, blades, drag, customized groomer options, training, warranty, maintenance, service, and even other club initiatives such as brushing. We’ve worked hard over the years to establish this status and it has always given great results. We want every customer’s TOTAL grooming experience to be a positive and successful one. It may sound corny, but it’s true. Ask any Sur-Trac owner. And finally, by dealing directly with the clubs it allows us to hear first-hand all of the suggestions, complaints, compliments, (etc)… and this is the driving force behind the evolution of our Sur-Trac equipment. So there, in a nutshell, is how we will be distributing the Sur-Trac 4-track system. As I don’t believe this grooming forum should be used as a sales tool I’m going to practice what I preach and I won’t be posting much info beyond this “New Product Introduction”. Perhaps I’ll post the occasional “pretty photo” (just for you Nuggs ) or product update, but if you wish to have more detailed info or if you have questions or comments you can call me direct (toll free) 1-866-476-6899, or send me a PM. You can also reach Mike Witzeling (SnowTrack LLC) at 715-675-7554, or, Doug Wilson (Mountain Grooming Equipment) at 802-496-3836.Best regards to all. Ian Auger Ebert Welding ![]() ![]() |
