I am looking at installing lockers in the front and rear of our Tucker 2000. It has the Dana 70 HD front and back. I have heard that Cooks sells an air locker kit for this machine, but not sure the cost. I have also seen that a detroit locker kit is available for this rearend. Will the Detroit locker hold up on the Tucker or do you have to go with the air unit? It seems like it would be alot cheaper and user friendly to go with the Detroit locker kit. Has anyone here tried either of the locker kits? If so, what did you think and what was the cost? Thanks, Mike

I go with air locks. It puts you in control. Detroit locker Wear ring@pin alot faster. Bin there. Detroit locker is cheaper but over the long hall air locker are the way to go. :my2c:

On a car or truck, the detroit locker is good for positive locking, however, it only unlocks when coasting or low speed low stress change, not grooming conditions.

I would want the air locker for the flexibility it brings. Open diffs for turning and tight maneuvers(without unnecessarily stressing drive line components), full positive lock at either end when you need it.

We have air lockers on both of our Tuckers.Just in the rears though.I don't think you need the front done too. There's a big difference in pulling the big hills we have.Well worth the investment.

I have also heard that installing the locker in the rear axle only gives the Tucker plenty of traction. Is it cheaper to buy the air locker from Cooks or buy it elsewhere? I have heard that Cooks makes a complete kit to do this. I think I have seen the air locker for sale online for around $600 or $700?

Probably cheaper from a performance center, BUT the Cook's kit may include instructions and fittings to streamline the install for your model tucker. They'll know what your talking about when you call too.

Mail order places generally don't have support or would know what a tucker is...could make ordering the right part for your axle challenging. :phone:

I would talk to Bill or Brian at Cook's.They set us up with both kits, very reasonable pricing with directions too.

We have the Air Locker kits on both our Tuckers. I have a couple hills on my run at times I couldn't pull without them. If the base is anywhere near solid or icy I lock in before hitting these spots and it walks the hills with no problem with the drags still cutting. Without them engaged I have gotten stuck with the drag full up and had to back down and make another run at it. We are only running rear lockers as well on our 97 and 08. Both were installed by Cooks as well.

So new Tuckers do not have any differential locking on them? It seems that this would be standard at least on the rear axle? :myopinon:

Nope, They have to be added. Cooks will do the installation for around $1500 including the kit. They do give you signal lights stock! :ph43r:
