Something I have wondered about for a while, is how do you train new operators in a single seat machine? I think some of the Tractor Conversions have buddy seats, but what about something the the PB Paana, BR 110, or the Small Tractor conversions?

Time on a skandic groomer behind a experienced groomer on a skandic, then time on the skandic following the groomer on the trails they will start on.

Heard of people using FRS radios to follow the groomer and coach them through and be there to answer questions.

Time in an open field or wide empty trail is really helpful to get comfortable with using the controls and how they effect the groomer and drag.

I like the idea of using the radios. One thing we do, (even with our two seater machines) is take them over to the airport, (not near the runway LOL) and make them drive the machines for at least an hour so they get used to it before there are any trees around them. Usually after 10 minutes they claim they have it down pat but as soon as you take them out on the trail, they head for the trees. Weather they like it or not, MAKE them get used to the machine in an area where they can't hurt it.
Have been grooming since 1978 have covered more than 100,000 miles of snowmobile trail.

We use radios and a big field. Then onto the railroad bed. Even then, I like to follow along whether by snowmachine or truck (at road crossings) to couch them along. So far, this has worked. :D

You guys are nicer than I am......I take them out with the 10ft drag down a norrow trail thats only 10 1/2-11ft wide. I run it most of the way in then let the newbie take over the controls and coach them through it. I also do the same on tighter twisty trails. I run it in explaining to them what I am doing with the controls and how to take the corners and such. They tend to get the hang of it pretty quick and get a good feel for where the drag is and what it is doing at all times.
.........takin it one mogul at a time
