I found a 1990 PB 240 with 11,000 hrs on it. I am looking for anyone with any info about Pisten Bullys. The tracks are in decent shape, the rear window is cracked, and the ski hill maintainence guy said the 3rd hydro pump is getting weak. However, it does not come with a tiller. What would be a good price for this machine. If I bought it at a cheap price would I end up dumping a bunch of money in it? I heard bully parts aren't cheap. Any info would be awesome |

We have the same machine. About the same amount of hours give or take, It has bad tracks, crappy tiller, Everythings still works. I know if we sold we would have a hard time getting $20,000. Fing out how much the pump is to replace. You can call or Email www.katvpb.com Another thing to remember is this machine is pretty wide. Depending on what part of the country you are in you may have to have it narrowed. another good chunk of change. |

Thanks for the post-- its only an hour from my house, and I can move it myself. They are asking $7,000.00 but I could probably get it for $6,500. Not a bad deal then? |

That sounds like a pretty good price. If you end up using a tiller I would look into rebuilding the pump instead of a new one. Does it come with the lift frame? Also any spare parts you can get with it will be very valuable. Look at the wheels, sprockets, hoses and frame for cracks. Those parts and track parts have been where I've spent the most money and time on my PB200Ds which are very simular. Look at the tracks closely as the tire guides and grousers are expensive. At $6500 you have alot of room to buy parts for a snow cat (or another one for parts) that can sell for considerably more. |

I would guess this machine has more issues then just a bad pump. $7,000.00 is pretty cheap. Randy made some good points. I would like to add: Check the push frame behind the blade. We broke the first one replaced it and broke the second one, we ended up having one made. What tracks does it have? |

i'm not sure what tracks it has on it. But the guy told me that he has a bunch of rolls that come with it. I'm not sure if i'm going to buy this machine. I guess they have two Bombardiers a 97' and a 00' that they will be selling this spring. They both have tillers too. I might wait for one of those machines |

SNOX What I have found with this vintage PB240 is that if all the pumps have not been rebuilt it is way past time. When I worked on them, we would pull the pumps every three thousand hours to check the input shafts for extreme wear. If the shafts have not been replaced you will definitely have to rebuild all of them and the splitter box as the splines in the gears are also shot. This is wyh the cat is priced where it is. It is only worth about $6,000.00 and that is because it might have good final drives on it. Wait until later this spring. Everone is going to be flooded with good trade ins this year I think. There is no reason to buy a money pit when some good values are just a couple of months away. While I import The Ohara cat from Japan, Both PB and Bombardier cats are good machines. I would wait and check out the two BR's. paul |
