what a wild seaon. "coworker" sunk a pb edge in a big lake. one groomer down for most of the season with really weird problems. local club called sheriff, county commissioners, and the state on me like 5 times for grooming too much. local busiensses wrote letters saying trails best in 20 years, and donated 40,000 dollars to grooming program. one former volunteer suing the program cuz county won't pay him for his volunteer time. Same volunteer wouldn't return keys ot every groomer, fuel tank, and shed in the county. Did I mention the volunteer is a club member?????? State is threatining to send us new equipment cuz we got our act together. Pretty wild when your biggest problem si the local sled club, and not the sunk groomer or lack of money or old equpment or employees or pissed sledders. |

Some people sound like idiots. These should not even be issues. How often do you groom to have people think too much. Most big clubs groom every night. Are you grooming during the day? |

MY 2 cents:: Only issue with grooming too much is budget concerns. If you have limited funds, I wouldn't groom if unless they were beat up. BUT, up here its volunteers', and we're always having a small disagreement when too groom. Especially this season long season, we're slowing down so we can make it to April 1st. Only approved for so many hours, and with the cost of fuel, we can't afford to groom without getting paid. Thats(april 1st) when the state says its time to put away the groomers. We'll probably stop midweek grooming unless it storms heavy.

we've got plenty of money. I posted a new thread on 3 ways our area found more moneys. It seems to me it is better to groom enough that you are taking out 1 foot tall bumps in the corners. If you go more often, some question if it is needed. If you go less often, it takes a LOT longer to fix, you beat up your equipment, and life sucks. it just seems like if you keep ahead of it a little, you aren't beating your head against the wall all the time. I can't imagine how you could keep ahead of over 1000 riders a day. |

We got about 10" of fluffy stuff on Saturday untill 8. I went out and just panned my section even though it was not beat, just wanted to have the trail flat and open for everybody to ride on Sunday. Just came in. The trail I opened yesterday did not look too bad, but was beat. Then I continued on to another section that was not done yesterday. It was horrible. Only the center got used with about 400 sleds, and now there is berms in every corner. It is very important to groom often, even if you might not think it will do any good, it may surprise you. |

Here in the Northern Lower of Michigan, we groom some trails every night and some only three times per week. It is much easier on operators and equipment and the wallet to keep them flat. If they get rough it takes more time AND fuel AND parts to flatten them out. If you can afford it, groom every night. I know, in some states the reimbursement is limited. Here we are given a set, budgetted contract. We can use all monies up to that amount without problems. If you use it up, as some have done this year, you have to renegotiate with the state. We are required to groom a minimum of three times per week, or more if the trail needs it. In answer to the ppl, usually local club members, who think we groom too much, we say ... "Git yer butt in the seat and YOU do it!". It shuts them right up! |

To drmiller.... We require all groomers to be members of our club. We also require them to sign a waiver/release. They can't sue us |
