So I was doing some testing today and decided to setup some links to the Tucker website. I noticed under the pic of a Tucker 2k, it stated it was pulling a "Idaho Special". A quick google search turned up nothing interesting. Anyone have more info on these?

i'm in idaho.
i don't need one of them rollers.

seems to me there are 3 stages of "lots of new snow."

1. Leave the drag at the parking lot.
2. Pick up the tiller.
3. Pick up the blade with the PB Edge, and till on the way home.

Maybe i'm misunderstanding somenting. We drag snowmobile trails with a8x16 or 10x20 mogul master drag, or some variation of that. Out in the west, you guys use rollers and short drags with tillers?

we use 10x20 and 12xlong drags.

we use short drags for tight trails.

we use ski hill tillers when teh powder is too deep to pull a drag.

when the powder is really deep, you pick up the tiller and teh front blade and try to claw the cat in somehow, then till it on the way home.

Probably not a place for the tm140 sure trac we have.

now that's OFFICIALLY funny!!!

Turns out we have a Surtrack.

We have one main trail whcih is the most important trail in the entire system.

When we get 3 feet of fresh powder, we don't take the sur track to break trail.

However, for the vast majority of weeks, I'm a believer in the Sur Track.
It burns about a little over half of the fuel of the PB's pulling drags, same conditions.
It actually pulls faster then the PB's.
The Sur Track drag is the best we've seen. By Far.
I gotta say customer support from Sur Track is exceptional.

We've had some rough luck with our Sur track. Ebert welding has sure stepped up to fix it. They could have cut us off, but they are going the extra mile to warrantee some really weird issues.

What a wild season for us.

W can run 2 ft of snow pretty easy. haven't gotten more than that in a storm in a long time, but the way this winter is going, we may get it. I've done some off trail grooming and it'll go but its a hairy deal. When I jumped off the machine i went up to my waist in snow.
It's hard to beat a suretrac drag. Damn good setup

Just a little "Hi-Tech" trivia....... There is a reason that most drags are at least 20 ft long.

Because of the properties of snow, moguls are on average at 7 ft centers. Go measure them, it's true. If your drag is shorter than 20-21 ft total, it will "follow" in the moguls, it will run up and down matching 2 moguls at a time. To get a flat trail, it has to span at least 3 moguls.

After I had 25 years of grooming and not knowing the tech part, the kiddies at the "Snow College" at Houghton, Michigan (Michigan Tech), discovered this fact. Probably at a very high tax supported price!!

more trivia.

the faster the snowmobiles are going, the further apart the moguls are.

also, 2.5 inch lug tracks make moguls a lot quicker then eastern tracks.

my theory: longer tracks make wider spaced moguls.

In the last few years the trails are getting tore up alot quicker. The tracks are becoming alot more agressive. Damn westerners! :)
