talking to one of our reps, he gave me the hint that some of you have different expectations then we do. on a BUSY weekend, we have 300 riders a day. most days on busiest trail we have 150 riders. We groom 3 times a week on that trail, but average something like 250 inches of snowfall a year. anyone else???? |

We have right around 100 miles of trail that we groom on a daily basis. On the weekends we average somewhere between 3000 to 4000 sleds per day. On our two busiest weekends we are probably over 5000 per day. We don't get as much snow as you as we get somewhere around 100 inches per year. |

We're not quite up there with trail boss, but parts of our trail system gets large amount traffic, especially during the weekends. Two areas are parks systems where ATV"s are allowed and they go around, and around, have a bbq in parking lot, then go around and around. I would venture a guess around 200 a weekend day. It's a pisser because they do nothing to help. 2/3 of our trail system is on a main corrider. It gets a lot of use, I would bet around 700 a day on a good weekend. |

I'm in Maine. Aroostook County. We've seen up to 200 sleds per hour. This was on about 1 to 2 ft of base. Reason for the high traffic was because of low snow in the rest if the new england region.School vacation week also. This was also a major bottle neck for the region. Trails groomed every night when we have that amount of traffic.Would groom only at night, and by 11am trail was trashed. 8ft of average snowfall. 10/12ft in the northern part of county. This year the riding is state wide, less stress on our trail system. I think the state of maine has 13,000 miles of trail total. This year we are getting record snowfall Aroostook County has been rated #3 in the country for riding. |

Here in the Northern Lower, we get 100 inches, groom most trails 7 nights. The last two years we have improved our program and have flat trails. The only problem with that is the reputation gets around and we get run over every weekend. Traffic count is about 800-900 per day on weekends and 200-300 per day during mid week. We have figured out what tears trails up. All those SLEDS!! We are now trying to figure out how to close all trails off so we can keep flat trails! LOL!!

I know how you feel about the traffic. Why not have a curfew on the trails after mid night or something. The trails just need to set up. People, following the groomers do not help get you good trails. |

We have found that a great time to groom is when its raining. No sleds on trail during rain, and then it usuall turns frigid right after rain, and the trails set up like glass, and last a long time if it stays cold. Alot of clubs wont go out when its raining, and wait till the rain stops, but by then the moguls have frozen, and you can't do anything with them until it snows again. Even putting fresh snow into a frozen mogul only lasts for a couple of sleds, and it gets blown out. Just my 2 cents! |

We didn't have time sat night to go out, but that would have worked well. We got 2 inches of rain then 3 or 4 inches of sleet and freezing rain. The trails that were flat are hard as a rock. You can ride your sled anywhere you want. About 2 or 3 inches of crust
Pretty cool.

Last time we were out grooming it was raining when we started. Snow doesn't process thru the drag very well but it is better to at least have a frozen flat trail than a frozen rough trail. |

we just counted for a 1/2 an hour and did the math. Obviously not scientific but it was a rough figure |

Good topic....Since we have people here from all across snow country, something i have always wondered is if someone ever thought of setting up some sort of counter. Be it an infrared beam on a counter or something like a game counter a hunter might use? Someone must have tried something like this? |

The Michigan DNR uses a buried cable to power their trail counter. |
