That's going to be a tricky one to get out. I've read about getting bush planes out of the ice using large tripods out of logs and a hoist, but I 'don't know if it would support 10 tons of wet groomer! Maybe some air bags that salvage companies use at sea. Keep us updated. |

Here in medwest they sink the cars to the bottom poll under the ice to a hole cut at the shoreline. The driver would be the one to tie the cable on if at was our groomer.

Jordan said a team of four divers were working to remove the Tucker and the attached sled. She estimated the ice to be between eight and 10 inches thick on most of the pond, but where Hazeltine went through, she said the ice was only about three inches thick. Never ceases to amaze me the clubs that allow their equipment out on ponds and lakes... As far as I'm concerned, they don't belong out there unless there is 8-10 FEET of ice! |

CASCADE - The Valley County Sheriff's Office says a snow groomer is stuck in a Central Idaho reservoir and they have no way to get it out. More... See the stuck groomer It happened earlier today in the west side of the Cascade Reservoir. Valley County dispatchers say the grooming machine traveled 500 feet out on to the ice on Cascade Reservoir and fell through - into the water. Dispatchers say the heavy machine is carrying diesel fuel but is not leaking any of that fuel at this time. Currently crews are working to get the machine out of the water. No one was hurt during the accident. A drinking water reservoir? Whose idea is that? Not leaking diesel or oil? Give me a break! |

I heard it was 8-10 inches, but they have been plowing the drag strip for a bit, and I think the snow banks on the side of the strip insulated those areas and created some weak areas. We've had a real mixed bag of weather. This weekend it was below freezing, today is 50 degrees and rain. I hate riding my sled across ice, I'd never take a groomer. |

just to let everyone know the ice was closer to 18 inches, 10 feet away closer to 24 inches. We had properly been over that area just 30 minutes before. We also had made the snow bankens for the races with the tucker. Our trail master had crossed that track around 3 in the morning, that is real scary because we would have not known about it untill 6:00 am when we arived to set the track up. Will we ever cross the lake again, not this boy ,sleds are one thing but never again in a tucker. The thing is that 100 feet closr to sure it is only about 4'deep. The surreal thing for me was that I had just got out of the passenger seat to move my van 2 minutes before. I left the window open and he swam out that passenger window. thats all for now just glad everyone is fine and the tucker will head to cooks tomorrow. |

How far is it from shore? Maybe cut a path in the ice and pull it in to shore. I know it would be expensive but there are also helicopters big enough to lift it out. |

I knew there was a reason we have a zero ice crossing policy in place for our groomer(s). We used to cross the ice too but after breaking through a creek one time and losing the groomer, we won't do it anymore. |

As I see and read about clubs and grooming. Most clubs take ideas from others and so on. There should be a law created amoung all the clubs that there will be no water or ice crossing or grooming. What is a mans life worth to you people? |
