Track Truck Drive Cog bolts

Anyone else have trouble keeping the right side drive bolts on? The last owner of this machine welded the nuts one side, and slowly the bolts have been stripping and the nuts not holding. We should have knocked all the nuts of this past fall and replaced the bolts. Strangley we don't have the issue with the left side. I think it's because the right side track gets worked harder. I don't think there is enough length on the bolt to get a lock nut on it, and at 13" (If I remember correctly) getting a slightly longer bolt isn't easy.

We have to replace one now, so we are thinking castle nut with aircraft wire.

Anyone else?

We tack welded both the nuts and the bolts to the drive. I would rather fight the welds in the shop than have the bolts back out in the woods. When it happened to us it was on the right side also. Chris

The nuts are suppose to be nylock nuts, and never reuse them once you take it apart. Also make sure the nylon cover on the bolts is in good shape, not worn.

Thanks, any ideas where to get the plastic covers? I tried to get some ASV but couldn't. We are running bolts with a steel pipe over them, I believe there should be a plastic sleeve over that?

Pekabu,

I believe the bolts were 1/2" x 12" bolts and you should be using a low profile stover nut, the ends are crimped down and it is similar to a nyloc but a lot better. As for the pipes, they are grey plastic (I think it is 3/4"????) and it can be purchased at a electrical wholesaler. Cut them a 1/16" shorter, just enought that they will spin on the steel pipe, but the steel pipe must be tight between the bolt.

Good Luck.

The part numbers for the plastic sleeves are 0305-016 Outer Sleeve & 0300-879 Inner Sleeve. The nuts are 0301-644 Top Lock nuts. As for using plastic conduit, it tends to shatter in the cold. Using the right parts saves a lot of greive, even if it is a little bit more money. You can get the parts from George Hayes & Sone, Bethel, Me. , Mabie Brothers, NY and MB Tractor in Tilton, NH. Basically any ASV Dealer. :letsnow:

I'll have to check my parts book, but the last time I tried to get the outer plastic sleeves from an ASV dealer they told me it was not availible. Will have to try Mabie out of NY. Good point on the conduit.

Found this Company while poking around. Maybe their tube stock would work if ASV cant supply it anymore? <_<
Looks like the smallest ID they have tho is 3/4"

B) The tube is plastic the Part #is 0305-016 and the bolt is a 1/2 x 12"grade #5 there is only about 1"& 5/8 thread on the bolt part# is 8002-421 and use a good lock nut And Jim is right us the right parts, some ASV skid steer dealers don't want to get involved with the track trucks because they never sold them, Duffy sale's here in Wisconsin sold a lot of TT & DX and can get most any part you may need

We actually have a ASV dealer/rental yard in town and they will order anything we want, as long as we give them the part number. Not a big fan of MB, at least there sales people. We've been able to get the other hardware from ASV no problem, but the tubes...

Thanks for all the leads. I will have to make some phone calls this week.
