PB Edge Issues

A thread to discuss stuff on the PB edges that can cause downtime.

Ours has dual tanks, the tank switch under the machine (aftermarket) goes bad periodicly.
There is a metal U shaped line on the left side of the frame, under the rear deck that connects MV1 to some goofy electric solenoid switch. This Line should be converted to a rubber line.
The bolts that hold the electric solenoid main box (big silver bugger with a gazillion hozes and wires) fell out due to vibration. Which caused it a fitting to break because of the metal U shaped line mentioned above.
Lots of O rings on the tiller hoses from removing to hook up a drag every other day.
The rear drive planetaries require frequent oil changes with the right oil, clearly spelled out in operators manual.
When it gets colder then 30 below zero consider plugging it in if possible. She starts, but she's no happier to be starting the day at that temp then I am.
Our dealer said to release track tension whenever possible, as in every day.

Our dealer is great. Friday night I called the service manager at 11:00 pm with the broken hydraulic fitting, and he spent 2 hours on the phone helping me figure out a way to get the machine back to the parking lot. That kind of service is worth a LOT to us.

Please folks chime in. The more we can share info, the easier our jobs are, adn the better our trails are.

If Pistenbully are as committed to customer satisfaction as they claim to be, are they not considering a recall or change free of charge?

As much as phone calls are great, surely prevention by fitting the right component stops downtime in the first instance!

It wasnt long ago there was someone on about a switch freezing up on their machine, which is surely the kind of environment they are born to work in!

If this is a design fault surely this would be feasible, unless its just your edge!

I still love PB's so I'll ignore these minor faults and still vote FIRE IN RED!

I'd be seeing red if someone called me at 11pm at night for something for a groomer.

That time of night it better be loved ones calling with emergencies!

wow.

maybe i'm in the wrong place.

if you run equipment in a hostile environment like grooming is, you are gonna have some issues now and then.

Obviously too many issues means you can't do your job, but IMO the PB issues are all relatively small, adn the dealer standing behind and supporting us makes us very happy with the choice we made.

I'm sorry if my post came across in any other way.

RMJ, if must be nice to be involved in a grooming program and not have to deal with issues after 11:00pm.

Most people I know involved in sales of any aspect are to expect those kind of calls every once in a while. It goes along with having good customer service.
Sleep is sometimes over rated.
Besides everybody knows those orange machines do not break down. :needsnow:

Since I have been operating groomers at age 16 (18 years now) and maintaining them since I was about 18 or 20 for our club. I have left the groomer and or drag sitting right where it was and got home, came back out and dealt with it when anyone and everyone is available. Just this year when it sank a bit, I called first a relative that was able to come out so I could get back to my truck at the shop, then I talked with a few people about what is needed next and the ball was in motion. If it was midnight when this happend I would have called the same relative and went home, talked to people in the morning and tackled it then. No way would I rustle someone out of bed for something that I did and I or the cat wasn't in peril.

If our club goes down with a mechanical, they 1) find a way to get out if possible, 2) call a loved one to come get them, 3) Stay in the cat (pending if it's running or not) and wait till morning when more people can jump on it and get it taken care of. 4) We have a hole list of numbers in the cat for emergencies but everyone is aware of when to call and when not. Common sense has to factor in with it.

If our cat broke, the last thing on my mind would be calling the dealer. I would be thinking of myself and figuring out a way to get it back to the shop, get me back to the shop or home and so on. Then when we have all our eggs in our basket we then deceide what step is next. Generally that involves opening up all the manuals and books and figuring it out. If all that fails then and only then would I call a service advisor and I know our club wouldn't be doing that at 11pm and we groom strictly at night!

:jump: Well said! Pretty much the same principal we run on. We have never called the dealer to figure out how to fix a problem on our groomer. The only thing I've ever called them on is for parts.

When our machine went down, Todd from Sunsource (the place that rebuilt our hydrostatic pumps and motors) out of Savage, Minnesota was at our groomer barn until 7pm on Christmas eve helping us get her dialed in and back on the trail. He still had a 3+ hour drive to get back to his family. Now that's dedication!!!!

Sometimes the topics tend to do that here. No harm meant though.

To get back on 'The Edge', Rocket is the only other one I have heard claiming to run one. He may have some issues to share.

The starting issue on PB100's I mentioned was another thread some time back started by xcspxlt.

I love anything PB so get your machine on the photo forum! Tell us a little on X Country to broaden our knowledge a little. I know only what I see on Eurosport Biathlon (of which I've enjoyed watching this winter and checking out the grooming thats been done!)
