A groomer demo day I went to last year was selling the Saratoga Rnager for Snowmobile Trail Grooming at 39,995. Setup with a AFMI drag was another 7k. YMMV |

I had a good look at a new Skandic the other day - NICE looking machine. I'll be curious to hear how the four-stroke works out for XC. Looks good on paper at least (and likely a bit warmer than my old Alpines ...less cranky too!).Just saw this today - we received a 2009 Skandic V800 SWT 4 weeks ago. We've had a chance to groom with it about 6 times now. The first two outings were with the default factory suspension settings - steering was barely present especially with a load. We then did all the suspension adjustments for heavy towing including tightening the strap 2/3 of the adjustment range. Steering is now greatly improved and comes close to matching our 2006 WT with Flexi Skis. Other impressions: 1) Low-end torque and clutch setup is great. The slightest increase on the throttle engages the clutch smoothly with lots of power. 2) Pulling up hills seems very good. We haven't had any problems however we haven't used the Ginzu knives at all - not much base at this point. 3) Overall side-to-side stability seems better than the 2006 WT. 4) It's nice and quiet with no exhaust smell although the exhaust still exits in the same location as the 2-strokes. 5) Seating position is a little higher and seems to be just a little colder for the driver unless you hunch down. At least this morning at -1F, I noticed a slight difference. 6) It's all computer controlled - no key other than the DESS. Just hit the start button. Everything's worked fine so far but if a problem ever occurs, it will probably require a call to the dealer to find out what the computer codes are trying to say. 7) We haven't had any cooling problems - I can hear the radiator fan cycle on/off periodically and while it can run after shutting down, that hasn't happened yet. However we've just been pulling either a packing drag or a 2009 Ginzu/Tracksetter without using the knives. 8) All the switches are on the left handlebar - it looks a little strange to start with but you get used to it fast. 9) The DC switch for the rear outlet is nice - makes fast work of adding grooming lights. 10) I don't have a measure of gas mileage yet - we're only have a 100 miles on the odometer so far and seems to be better than the 2-stroke. I'll let you know once we have a calculation. 11) This one had wide angle mirrors integrated into the windshield. The older adjustable standard mirrors worked better to adjust to watch the trail exiting the groomer comb. Overall impressions are great and we find it a significant improvement over the Skandic WT. If anyone has a particular question, just let me know. |

Thank you for the report! Sounds like it might be worth saving for, as it's still quite a bit cheaper than a Saratoga Ranger, or even a Ranger with hard shell. Please do keep us posted on how it pulls the Ginzu with knives down. |

We have 265 grooming miles on our V800 Skandic now. We're getting an average 12 MPG. Our first 10 hours were done packing with an Otter sled with a couple sandbags (i.e. no heavy pulling) but all in low range. We've had tough hard-pack and ice since the day after Christmas. We've been chopping it up and renovating frequently with the Ginzu with no signs of overheating. So far, it's working very well. |

At ABR’s grooming clinic last winter we test drove that sled and liked it. It was our 2nd choice after the Polaris Widetrack IQ . Going by memory here, seems like that sled had room under the hood for a larger radiator plus it had a track heat exchanger. It that was ours I’d be looking for a largest radiator it that could be fit in it and take the track exchanger off-line. Tech trails did that to their VK and loved loosing the snow slop and got it to stop overheating. Hummmm seems like we had a photo of that somewhere. This machine didn’t have the extra room but they found more by raising hood up a few inches then they installed a ATV radiator. Worked well but looked awful in my book. Thanks for the report. |
