A comment made in another thread indicated using a less horspower machine will result in less fuel usage. It has been my experience that more horsepower pulling the exact same drag results in less fuel consumption, and I mean CONSIDERABLY less fuel consumption. Anyone else ever experience this? Just to clarify, I'm talking about desiel power. |

I think that you are referring to an answer that I posted. HP vs fuel comsumpution is realative to the work being done. I would not use a 50 HP motor to run my windsheild wipers. In pulling an 8 ft drag would it be wise to use a machine that has 300 HP? While I agree that more fuel will be used if the pulling machine is to small because it has to work much harder, therefore using more fuel while a larger engine is just kind of coasting along. I am sorry if I mislead anyone by my statement. |

No need to be defensive. It's just an observation I've made in recent years. I'm wondering if anyone else has witnessed the same thing. |

Sure have. I worked in power generation using diesel generators for many years and we kept very detailed records on fuel consumption vs. power output. Using all Caterpiller prime movers, the bigger engine while producing the same power always provided better fuel consumtion. In our case it was a result of more efficient engines as they got bigger. The 3306 was a known fuel hog, the 3406 was a middle of the road work horse and the 3456 was computer controlled and got the best fuel economy. In my opinion it depends alot on the make and model. |

Our Soucy is headed to Iron River for a demo period after it's serviced. I won't get it back until Tuesday. I still prefer my old Sno-Plane! |
