Just a quick hello from a new member and first year operator. The amount of useful info on here is amazing.. I think I've read every post and followed every link this summer while waiting for it to snow... I was curious if anyone had any info on newer cats? I'll be operating a 2000 BR275 with a tiller and a 12 person cab. Any info on this or similar cats would be helpful... Thanks Again Gary Whistler BC BTW: I have some pics from last season but I'm not sure how to post them... |

Id really like to curse and swear at you a lot! If you've read some of my posts you'll see Im a mega Whistler lover in addition to fanatical, yet virginal, groomer! That makes your role one of those 1st on my wish list!
Anyway, I suppose Id best keep calm and friendly, welcoming you to the forum! A little trip down memory lane now- When I got engaged at Crystal Hut back in 2005 we got taken up in a BR cabbed groomer by 'Happy' I think it was. If you know him, say hi. That night the snow was piling down and the bug really hit. It was operated by Canadian Snowmobile adventures. I put the newly engaged wife in the back and blagged the front seat - Now thats dedication! I just loved it. I even bumped into the Operations manager on the lifts one day, got chatting, told him I wanted to be a Groomer and then he said what his role was and to give him a shout regarding a posting. I emailed him from home but he never replied! Youve maybe worked long and hard to get there and Im green with envy! You'd best keep the photos coming in once you get out in the white stuff! |

Welcome to the forum Gary. My advice to you is: Keep the tiller out of the trees and rocks as they do not hold up well when you hook a tree or rock with one on that big machine. They come apart, bend and break easily. I spent a day last winter working on straightening one out, trying to figure out how much damage was done and putting it back together again. It gets costly for making the small mistakes when you have that much horsepower available. Do keep us posted on your adventures with the BR275. |

Hey Nuggs,, How often do you make it to whistler? Are you in a position to move out for a season? Grooming for the mountain is a pretty hard job to get, impossible without experience with cats. The easiest way in is to work a job called "The Bun Wagon" Since Blackcomb runs chairs up to rendevouz, crystal, and horstman all the food/supplies are brought up in a cat. After the delivery the cat brings all the garbage down to the valley. A good friend works Bun wagon and I know there is an opening this year.. It's almost grooming, You get an almost new cat, Full blade but no tiller. Gary BTW: Sorry for putting the idea out there if it's not a possibility.. You do live half way around the world anyways... |

Ive been out every second year recently. The wife likes a sun holiday in between, and Ive never seen the sun in Whistler yet! As much as it pains to admit it, I think a posting over there with you guys is somewhat out of reality. Id have to be committed to the resort to pick up what I want so until I grow big enough ?:ph43r:? and emigrate it wouldnt happen. I considered a career break here but again, the resorts are looking for more committment than that. Our next ski holiday is likely to be somewhere else in BC as Whistler is all we know and there must be other great places and people to discover. Yes, this living half way round the world is a pain in the arse cos you guys keep rubbing it in about 'feet' of snow when I measure in....well lets say thats probably our cumulative total! Thanks for the thought though! When you get your PB600 and a nightshift on either mountain I'll be across! |

It's almost like you saw it coming.. the local welding shop was able to fix up my mistake for a couple hundred dollars.. Glad my boss is understanding... The tiller wouldn't center itself when it was lifted (I've since fixed that) and while I was backing on a road cut into a side hill it got hung up in the high side snowbank.. I never would have guessed that the snow would have bent a 6" square lift frame... Gary |
