I thought some of you might be interested in a little trip down memory lane? Actually many of these machines were out in the snow before I was ever born, so if you guys can remember these then you are really old Here is a link to the photos from another site where I belong. I am their token Snow Trac owner and they just sort of tolerate me. But most of the rest of them have antique Bombardier units. They just had their 9th annual meet in Canada and gathered up about 20 units. http://www.northerntracks.com/forum/index.php?topic=71.0

Those things are cool! There's a few of them(non running/non restored) about an hour away from where I live. I drive right by them everytime I make that run with the groomer. THey've been sitting there for years collecting dust. If I had the time or resources, I'd go pick one of them up and restore it.

Why don't you stop by and inquire about one? You might find one to be cheap enough that it will follow you home. You can then fix it up over time when funds allow. I've known of some folks who have given away dead snowcats just to get them hauled off their property! You won't know until you try!

Do you take checks??? Seriously, those things have been there since I was a kid and haven't moved an inch. I'd almost bet they'll still be there in a few years from now when I've got more time and money to do something with one. |

Nuggs, you have to learn to appreciate the fact that beauty is more than skin deep. . . at least with snowcats. Well the classic Bombardiers have a few things going for them, among them is speed. Those things are FAST for snowcats. Speeds over 30mph are pretty common, and how many snowcats are capable of carrying 12 to 18 people? Another interesting thing is that many of these old Bombardier units still running today are used commercially, so while many of these date back to the 50's and 60's they are still earning their keep. How many 20 year old groomers are operated by profit making ventures, let alone 50 year old units like these!?! It is common to find these Bombardiers with ice augers mounted to them and used to ferry ice fishermen out onto lakes, drill a hole for the fisherman, and then move on to another spot to drop off another customer. While these units are not suitable for particularly rough terrain or use on slopes, they are amazing machines on flat plains, frozen lakes and even on the roadways. |

Thanks, but I already have one. Actually I have several. They made that toy in 3 different versions. One with plain sides, one with embossed sides and one with sides that read "Snow Trac" on them. I even have one of the Matchbox puzzles, still wrapped in the original factory cellophane, and an unopened Matchbox toy that is still enclosed in the 'bubble' package on a cardboard display backing. ![]() ![]() I was hoping that maybe Matchbox made a Bombardier version, but I've not yet seen one of those. I'd grab one of those up in a heartbeat. I like to collect the toys associated with any antique snowcats. BTW, I have a friend who has a Kristi KT3 for sale if anyone is interested. It needs a new VW engine and some basic restoration work. Asking price is $4950 OBO. I can put anyone interested in touch with the owner. |

Okay, today was the first time in a bit that I've been over to the city. It's a 3 hour drive to the city and the place where I saw those Bombardiers is an hour away. I stopped on the way back and checked them out real quick.(didn't even get out of the car) and here's the deal: There are four of them parked side by side. The first one looks to be an early wood model. It had no tracks or idlers/sporckets for that matter. The wood is all rotted and falling apart. The middle two had tracks but it does not look like they have moved in years as they both had the engine and side covers missing and the engine was basically a big block of rust. The last one was a metal body which had no tracks or engine. I'm thinking they probably used two of them as parts machines for the other two but its obvious they have not moved in years due to the trees growing up around them and between them. |

Was in the city today and took some pics on the way back.![]() ![]() ![]() Apprantly, the narrow guage one still runs. The other ones are in pretty rough shape. The only non-running one that has the psot potential is the wide-bodied orange guage. |

Went to Val Dor last week and on the way up 117 there was a really nice looking one on the side of the road for sale. It said 1937 on the front and it was blue and white. Sorry did not stop, was with somebody else who does not share the same interest as me.
