So, like a lot of folks in upstate NY (Adirondacks) we've recently been "blessed" with some snow finally....which meant I was called in to help a local XC center groom their trails, and worked on my own as well.

What I experienced surprised me a bit.

I got ridiculously stucking going DOWNHILL on a Skandik SWT...several times, for about an hour total. Admittedly I haven't ever operated one in that much powder, and once I got better at keeping it level I was ok...as long as I was going downhill. BTW i wasn't pulling anything, just track-packing.

The next day (Sunday) I went in to my own trails, with my old '79 Alpine. Occasionally I had to back DOWN a hill 15' or so to get a running start back UP it to get through a steep spot, but it had NO problem on flats or downhill...nor most moderate uphills. AND it turned and backed up better than it usually does on a hard packed trail.

I don't think an Alpine II would have done as well (too much weight in the nose), but I was pleased with the performance of the old beast:)

Monday I spent most of the day in the PB070, which had difficulty now and then trying to drag the compactor bar (snow hadn't really set up yet and was still soft...even after rolling for the few days before and a LOT of skiers).

Tomorrow I head in to my trails again to try and open up some more...I'll be curious to see how it handles the older snow...not 3'+ anymore, but still plenty deep.

Anyone else up here been having fun? I know I haven't had much time to post here in the past week due to all the plowing, grooming, etc..., not to mention the ol' day job.

PS Anyone know of a PB100 for sale? I know someone looking for one (wish it was me!)
