Dave Pearson is to leave active refereeing, and take up a coaching role. He will start his new job on Monday (8th October), making this weekend his last match as an active referee.

Good referee, was always in the shodow of Chris White and then Wayne Barnes though

He finishes with a west country derby: Gloucester Vs Bath

Am pleased for Dave Pearson but am surprised at the timing of the appointment. Surely the 6N knew they were looking to appoint someone? Better for him not to have started the season?

Anyway he brings a lot of experience with him so hopefully all the elite refs and those coming through will benefit from that

For me a decent enough ref but never one who quite reached the heady heights on the world stage - as already said, too much in the shadow of White and Barnes and this was reflected in his appointments. Would stand corrected but if I recall correctly he never had a Tri Nations Match in his career, which I think says something, while Barnes and White we regular visitors to the Southern Continent

Good luck to Dave in his new role and I am sure he will do a good job
