Michael will be refereeing a Champions League qualifier in Wroclow on 25th July (Slask v Budocnost Podgorica). Good luck to him and his team (if anyone knows who is with him please post, UEFA website doesn't have those details yet)

If they're trying out a relatively inexperienced referee at that level, IMO, it would give the new FIFA AR's a good chance to bed into the competition too.

They've just heard the news at the Stadium of Light..."

Know this is slightly off topic but what level of referee are Motherwell likely to get in the 3rd qualifying round non champions route the following week? Will be up against Kiev, Fehnerbahce, Copenhagen or Panathaniakos.

Probably a Cat 3 or cat 2 FIFA level referee.

Great signs for Darren England, and also good for Attwell. Hopefully Oliver and team will have a great game, and make a good start on the FIFA ladder.

24th July - KR (ISL) vs. HJK (FIN)

Referee: Steven McLean (SCO)
Assistant Referees: Martin Cryans (SCO) / Andrew McWilliam (SCO)
Fourth Official: Crawford Allan (SCO)

A first taste of Champions League football for Steven McLean. First UEFA match for Andrew McWilliam too.

I know with the score already at 0-7 it is hardly going to matter but is it not a bit strange he is getting this game when a Scottish team await the winners. I know the appointment was made before the draw.

Naaa! Doesnt matter one jot IMHO. MIckey Mouse stage involving Mickey Mouse teams, hardly world shattering stuff
