Wow, its fair to say a game of some debatable decisions. Well worth a watch, when its on MOTD. I think its not unreasonable to say, he decided its was the day for not giving Penalties. Also he should have dismissed Ramsey for a 2nd yellow, and maybe a norwich player. Edited by Carter, May 5, 2012, 4:12 pm.

Looks like the general acclaim on here for Anthony's season has been the proverbial kiss of death! Of course we will have to wait and see on MOTD but if BBC Sport text is anything to go by it doesn't sound as if had the best of games. |

The summariser (Graham Taylor) on BBC 5live said he did very well in what was a difficult game. He also said that Sian Massey said to taylor that it was not a pen |

I'm gonna wait until I have seen the game on TV or spoken to Anthony who is his own fiercest critic (Yes even more than Messrs Bruce and Warnock) before I comment Edited by philtheref, May 5, 2012, 9:14 pm.

philtheref ...I did preface it by saying let's wait until MOTD...honest guv...just that the general feel was that it might not have been as good as he has been of late. I like it when I hear about refs who are their own fiercest critics....often the sign of a really good, level headed ref. I'm sure, if turns out not to be too good, he'll take it on the chin and come back stronger. |

Yeah, generally very up and down. On the one hand, he seemed to do the basics well, played some great advantages and generally had a good rapport with the players. On the other hand, he got so many critical decisions wrong. Ramsey should have been sent off. There should have been three penalties, one for Norwich, two for Arsenal (one of which was a certain DOGSO). However, he managed to make it a whole season without a single penalty for one of the most attacking sides in the league in their home ground, so well done to him and his colleagues. :cheer: :rec: |

Was pleased with the appointment but not with the display. He has all the attributes to be very good, except the conviction to make a big decision. Having been at the game he refused to give each team a penalty for hand ball, failed to send Ramsey off for 2clear yellows and was inconsistent throughout the game with his interpretation of what was or wasn't worthy of a yellow card. Crucially, he failed to award what appeared to be a clear late penalty (and subsequent red for dogso) when all around him thought it was nailed on. If I'm proved wrong I am happy to admit it but my gut feeling is that Anthony Taylor was short of the required mark today. |

Have spoken to Mr Taylor, albeit via text. I've seen the 30 second highlights on SSN but will wait for MOTD tomorrow night before commenting more fully. |

As our conversation referenced more than Anthony I don't feel it appropriate to disclose the detail. Suffice to say, he sees certain incidents differently to Mr Wenger. |

Philthe ref When I initially read that you were planning to "comment more fully" following your text conversation with Anthony after the match..I did think hhmmm...careful...but then to later declare "I don't think it appropriate to disclose the detail" did feel something akin to "The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away" ;-) ;-) Actually it wasn't as bad as I feared on MOTD, although they are a bit disingenous in the highlights they show as apparently there was a very strong penalty appeal for Norwich in the first half that they didn't show. From what I saw, although I thought both were penalties, for me the Norwich one was the stronger, more clear cut claim, and I think personally that Paul Lambert had more reason to feel aggrieved than Arsene Wenger. On a more positive note, I have a theory that free fast flowing games are more often not aided by the refereeing and he did seem to really give what looked a very exciting game every chance to flow. And yet again what a cracking call from Sian Massey for Arsenal's second goal. She really does get these marginally close calls spot on and her judgement of these calls is really impressive. I did wonder why she didn't flag for the Norwich shirt tugging penalty though to assist Anthony in making the decision, but looking at the slow motion on MOTD her view may have been obscured by a couple of players in the penalty area. Also, can someone help me here, because the same thing happened to Everton yesterday also. When does a player become active in an offside situation these days? Paul Lambert was technically correct to say that one of the Arsenal attackers (not RVP) was offside in the move leading up to the push on RVP in the penalty area. As the cross came in, the offside attacker did not touch the ball. Does that mean he would only have been deemed active and therefore offside if he had touched the ball or can he still be deemed to be interfering with play. Sian didn't flag but she might have done had he touched the ball. Also re Everton's second goal, Fellaini was in an offside position as the ball came across but again he didn't touch it and it came to Stracqualirsi who put it in the net. Fellaini was flagged offside and the goal was stuck off. Again, what is the case "in law" for a player being passive/becoming active... I actually feel for assistants these days...they need the memory bank of an elephant and the rewind facility of a top of the range video recorder...it's a thankless task at times. Your clarification on the passive/active stuff from those two games yesterday would be much appreciated because I don't know about you...but I'm confused!! |

fellaini was active as he was interfering with an opponent in the 6 yard box and made a play at the ball, the arsenal player was stood in an offside poisition but not active as he was doing none of the above, and as for sian massey thats not close he is 2-3 yards on side..... |

You're not wrong when looking at the freeze frame, and my initial instinct was that he was onside. But the replay shows how quickly the scenario changed, and you have to say that it is a good call at the speed it happened. (You have to also say what a good armchair assistant I make ;) ) |
