Disgraceful scenes at the end of the Amlin Challange Final. Clancy surronded by Stade players many of whom had to be held back to avoid getting to Clancy. Stade coach had to be held back again to stop him getting at Clancy and him needing a police escort of the FOP. Hopefully the ERU looks back on that and hand out heafty bans.....

Btw. COME ON THE QUINS! :cheer:

Missed the game.
What provoked all this? There have been a number of posters on here who are amazed at the high respect in which Clancy seems to be held by the IRB, not shared by many of us, myself included.
Did he play some part in this by his performance?

He was very poor during the game. Very fussy on the scrums and missed numerous offence at the ruck by both Quins and Stade. Totally farical scenes on the last scrum which aggrivated the Stade players.

Thanks.
It also confirms the concern many of us have expressed that he is being entrusted with the opening game of the 2011 World Cup.

Looks like not only is he incompetent - but he's also bullet-proof:

Quote:

THE IRB referees’ chief Paddy O’Brien has publicly criticised Ireland’s George Clancy for his handling of Jimmy Cowan’s disallowed try in last Saturday’s Test match between New Zealand and South Africa in Port Elisabeth.

Clancy asked the Namibian born Television Match Official (TMO) Johan Meuswesen whether it was a “try or no try”, but when Meuswesen offered additional information, Clancy replied, “Yes.”

Meuswesen then told the Limerick referee that Israel Dagg’s final pass was forward and the try was subsequently disallowed.

“The referee and the television match official were operating outside our agreed protocol,” said O’Brien. “That will be addressed with George in our review of the game. It was disappointing and will form part of our discussions when we next meet.”

O’Brien, despite confirming that Clancy acted outside the laws of the game, confirmed he will still referee the tournament opener between the All Blacks and Tonga in Ellis Park on September 9th.

“They made a call they were not entitled to make,” O’Brien continued. “If that means referees miss a knock-on or something else in the lead up to a try, then that’s the way it is. This has all been talked about at the IRB level and that was the decision.”

Once again a case of Clancy mucking up in a big game. Yes is was the right decision but IRB protocol says they cannot use the TMO for any decisions before the goal line. It was the way the TMO said 'do you require any other information' and Clancy replyed 'Yes', it was almost as if the TMO knew it was wrong but didn't want to let Clancy down.

The question is why didn't he just listen to his TJ (Andrew Small) who clearly said after the try was being scored, it was a defo forward pass. Paddy O'Brien handle the IRB panel quite well and does a good job but given this and the Stade vs Quins game fiasco i think Clancy has to be take of the opening game of the RWC, to show again referee's are accountable for their errors.

He wont go far in the WC. My bet is on Owens or Jouber (if SAF don't get their) to get the final. But considering the way Wales are playing currently, i think Nigel has a good chance :p
