So..now we know the make up of the first semi-final..who would you have as your team

India v Pakistan

…on a practical level..as it stands, now that Australia and West Indies are both out I would go for

Umpires Simon Taufel and Steve Davis

Third Umpire: Bruce Oxenford

Fourth Umpire: Billy Doctrove

However, if South Africa beat New Zealand (as I think they will…comfortably) and England beat Sri Lanka I would go for…

Umpires Simon Taufel and Billy Bowden

Third umpire Tony Hill

Fourth umpire Billy Doctrove

Think it's fair to say England are out now, so my predictions for the semi finals

Sri Lanka v New Zealand - Aleem Dar and Ian Gould, Billy Doctrove (3rd), Asad Rauf (4th)

India v Pakistan - Billy Bowden and Simon Taufel, Steve Davis (3rd), Marais Erasmus (4th)

Semi-finals

India v Pakistan Simon Taufel and Billy Bowden Steve Davis Rod Tucker

Sri Lanka v New Zealand Aleem Dar Ian Gould Asad Rauf Bruce Oxenford

..and I have a, maybe surprising prediction for the final prediction for the final

On field umpires Steve Davis and Marais Erasmus
Third umpire Simon Taufel
Fourth umpire Ian Gould

My prediction for the final - given the tendency to use semi final umpires in the final:

Simon Taufel and Ian Gould
Aleem Dar (3rd)
Billy Bowden (4th)

Steve Davis and Marais Erasmus in place if it's a Pakistan v New Zealand final, which I think is very unlikely.

Agree with the predictionson the whole, but maybe would give Erasmus a 3rd umpire job ahead of Doctrove.

I think it would be fitting if Steve Davis was rewarded with an appointment for the final.

He has sort of flown under the radar I feel, and lived in the shadow somewhat of one of the best umpires we have seen emerge in many a year in Simon Taufel.

..there is one other thought that has just struck me...given the Australian dominance of recent years (and hence no Australian umpire in the final for quite some time), maybe an onfield pairing of Taufel and Davis could be under consideration, especially as this year may be a bit of a blip for the Ausses and they are likely to come back much stronger next time round.

However, if New Zealand beat Sri Lanka and make the final, which given what they did to South Africa is by no means out of the question, I think an all Australian umpiring pairing in the final is very unlikely.

...also one non-umpire related point... a horse from Japan won the World's richest horse race earlier in Dubai earlier today...a bit of good news up for a shellshocked nation after what has happened there recently.....after the awful earthquake in Christchurch recently, could new Zealand upset all the odds and do something similar for their nation and go and win the final perhaps...who knows!

I was going to say, they may not get many more opportunities to have Simon Taufel umpire the final, I would be stunned if he didn't get the final.

Ian Gould's lost his 100% record - only Aleem Dar and Billy Bowden now have 100% records.
