Remember he is innocent until proven guilty, but this might be the end of a career.
Better to be thought a fool, than to hit that keyboard and remove all doubts!

Not good. Will await outcome with interest.

Was he not arrested about a year ago because of some alleged misdemeanour in St Helens over a taxi or something like that. Not sure what happened as a result but he reffed the Challenge Cup Final if I recall so his emplyers at least did not hold him guilty

Last year he was arrested for asault in a night club. This is awful for the image of rugby league referees in England! You don't see Tony Archer or Shayne Hayne getting similar publicity!

IMO, Ganson has become Lazy this season. In previous seasons I could see why others would rate him as a top ref but this year he looks unfit and he isn't getting the big calls correct.

Phil Bentham should get the challenge cup final!

Reports on BBC site suggest they were all at a wedding night do.
Things seem to have gone quite as Ganson is conveniently "on holiday" this weekend

Or a 40 year old man? Surely they are both old enough to know better.

See appointments thread, no ganson this weekend!
Not surprised.
I hope that the RFL have the guts to keep him off matches until the assault accusation has been cleared up one way or another. If he is found guilty, then I feel his refereeing days are over, certainly at this level.

I can see no way, even if he is cleared and continues reffing, that he will get the cup final. Surely between Silverwood and Bentham and I would hope Bentham would get it on merit, though with Warrington in the final this may not be allowed

Bentham has been the best referee I've seen this year and last in the super league. He just does his job week in, week out and avoids all the other c**p! There are no rules about location stopping referees doing games in Challenge cup Finals. Ganson did the ST Helens v Hull Final is 08

"Steve Ganson, the game's highest-profile referee, has again been overlooked after agreeing with the RFL that he would be better served by a spell out of the spotlight, following his arrest on suspicion of assault in early August.

Ganson has been bailed until October, and although the RFL originally explained his inactivity by saying he was on a pre-booked holiday, he is not expected to appear again this season."
