A bit of fun... Who do think are the best and worst commentators? Mine are as follows: Best R Benaud - doesn't state the obvious, know when to stay silent and not state the obvious M Nicholas - Enthusiastic commentry, insite into captaincy M Atherton - overall cricketing knowledge, captaincy insite D Lloyd - Enthusiams, light humour during commentry N Hussain - for his forthright views about players Worst B Willis - his incessant winging about umpire's and stating the obvious T Greig - his bias towards Australia (despite being South African and English...) Charles Coleville - commentating like hes an expert despite not playing the game at a pro level |

I'm not sure I'd disagree at all with that choice except that I'd put Michael Holding somewhere amongst my best. He always talks a lot of sense and I really enjoy just listening to his tone and accent. Also you've not mentioned Messrs. Gower and Botham. I prefer David Gower when he is chairing the discussion to his commentary but Ian Botham I never think seems very much at ease, despite having been on for donkey's years. I'd therefore put them both somewhere in the middle - not best or worst. Also, no mention of radio commentators. I'm not at all sure about some of the newer ones (can't even remember their names) but Aggers has grown on me over the years. You'll never replace the likes of John Arlott and Brian Johnston but Aggers has grown into the role and I think is the best of the TMS bunch. Edited by reflector, April 5, 2010, 9:01 am.
