Nominations are as follows: Billy Bowden (New Zealand) Aleem Dar (Pakistan) Steve Davis (Australia) Ian Gould (England) Tony Hill (New Zealand) Daryl Harper (Australia) Asad Rauf (Pakistan) Simon Taufel (Australia) My vote would go to Taufel, who, IIRC, has won it for the last 4/5 years now!!! |

From that list - Taufel, but the general standard of umpiring on the Elite Panel this year has been poor. |

Simon will probably win. Good umpire but has the advantage of not being able to umpire tests involving Australia. It is well known that Ponting is a dreadful marker of umpires. |

TBF, even Ponting wouldn't have a problem with Taufel, as he is pretty damn good!!! |

How on earth Harper gets on there heaven knows. By my reckoning the only 4 missing from the Elite are Benson, de Silva, Doctrove and Koertzen, which does not say much for their umpiring. I wonder if this perhaps spells the dying throes of Koertzen's international career soon as he is way past his best. The other interesting issu is whether Gould will now be regarded as Englands no.1 with Benson's failure to be nominated. My vote would be for Taufel - on a different planet from the mediocre rest I am afraid to say |

No real contest there - Taufel is head and shoulders above the rest. |

The list has been cut down to 4 - which are: Dar Rauf Hill Taufel Which means Bowden, Gould, Davis and Harper aren't in the running anymore. |
