Tomorrow's test at Galle, the first since the Tsunami almost three years ago, has been in doubt for some time with parts of the outfield resembling a mud bath, along with the "grassy" slopes for the fans to sit. A half-hour shower today in Galle has put the test match back 2 hours, and you get the feeling any significant rain over the next 5 days will put the whole test in jeopardy. Looking at the forecast that is quite likely. |

So, nearing the end of day 3, it stands: Sri Lanka 499/8 declared (with a superb double hundred from Mahela Jayawardene, supported well by big scores from Dilshan and Vaas) England 81 all out (utter shambles with only Collingwood contributing anything relatively meaningful with 29!) Follow on enforced. Screwed. |

The second innings is a bit better (especially since it's been raining) but what a dreadful tour it's been. What on earth has gone wrong with our batting, bowling and fielding? Apart from that I suppose we seem to have done OK. |

Stat of the day (courtesy of Cricinfo) Ryan Sidebottom (253 balls) faced more deliveries in the series than Pietersen (250). There are England's shortcomings in a nutshell. |

Dreadful tour. We probably should have lost 3-0 to be perfectly honest. The second test was probably the only one we even looked like we competed in. For only two English batsmen to average above 40 in such a short tour is poor. If Jayawardene can score almost twice as many as our leading run scorer (Cook), then something has to have gone wrong. Panesar with 8 wickets was our leading wicket taker, and he was poor. Hopefully it is just a blip, and we make significant improvements against New Zealand (away, then home) and South Africa (home) |
