Kevin Pietersen has ruled himself out today (breaking news on SSN), which surely makes Paul Collingwood odds on favourite for the role.

The selectors will announce the skipper tomorrow, together with the squad for the series against the Windies.

I did hear Andrew Strauss was in the equation as well.

I don't even think Strauss' place in the side is secure, let alone him being captain, so I don't think it would the best idea!

I'd have liked to see KP have a go at it, but obviously he doesn't feel ready, which is fair play for him to come out and say so. Collingwood is therefore the obvious choice for me.
There's no I in team, ....but there is in winning!!

Collingwood is a solid player, probably one of our best in the current O-D say - not sure of his capabilities as captain though.

That seems to be the problem nowadays, as soon as you are reaching international standard you almost stop playing county cricket, and therefore any chance of captaincy experience disappears out of the window - but I am sure he will be fine!

I'd prefer Collingwood myself, but, alas, picture if you will my fellow cricket loving comrades the thought of Monty Panesar as ODI Captain of England.

How the media would love that one

Assuming Crispy's turned the post down, I too want Collingwood to get the chance.

So, the captaincy goes to Paul Collingwood, as expected. And the squad for the series against the West Indies (2 Twenty20s and 3 ODIs) is:

Paul Collingwood ©
James Anderson
Ian Bell
Stuart Broad
Alastair Cook
Dimitri Mascarenhas
Monty Panesar
Kevin Pietersen
Matt Prior (wk)
Owais Shah
Ryan Sidebottom
Jonathan Trott
Michael Yardy

Firstly, congratulations to Colly - no arguments with him being appointed as captain.

Secondly - the squad. Not sure what to make of that TBH. A very different looking squad to the Test one, which surprises me a bit.

No Strauss, no Vaughan, no Hoggard (for some reason, barely plays ODIs), no Harmison (retired, so that doesn't surprise me!)

Other players that I'm a bit surprised aren't there - Jon Lewis, Jamie Dalrymple, Mal Loye.

A lot of bits-and-pieces players there as well, which worries me.

Could have been worse, you could have said something like Liam Prior (w/k) -
